You just cant make this shit up. Truly is year of the linux desktop.

I think it would be like any alien invasion in media where we could effectively kill or destroy a small amount while being obliterated by a large amount. Half life comes to mind. I think it would depend on how many we would be dealing with.
I just dont see it happening at all. Youtube may be too big to fail unless its somehow broken off of google into a nonprofit or something. An alternative I would be happy with is us switching to the internet archive. But im sure im alone in that. I also think posting videos will soon cost money to upload rather than being spammed nonstop as data hosting costs skyrocket.
I think we all know that doesnt really matter at this point. As a Lemmy user I am only able to communicate with you if you post to one of our communities first. Even then I still dont even know how that works since I dont use mastodon.
On every level besides technical we are all seperated. What I proposed is that there needs to be a better way to integrate PT into all of our apps and instances in a way where we can all comment and engage while being able to discover and share videos as easily as possible. I still think using Lemmy communities is the best bet for this vs using some complicated approach.
The app is the least of peertubes problems, I just think the entire concept is the most complicated and obtuse fediverse we have. Its hard enough for normal people to use Lemmy or Mastodon but PT is a whole different animal. Maybe PT should stop trying to be its own standalone service and integrate better with what we already have.
Maybe Lemmy and Mastodon could use PT as a backend for videos uploaded to their instance that could be found via a Lemmy community or tags via Mastodon.
This app makes no sense as someone who has no idea how peertube is supposed to work. I think peertube will never take off unfortunately because no one is gonna host quality instances. Videos are just too expensive.
Are content creators we already know expected to start their own servers? Or will there be a general mega instance for everyone to post to. Not to mention the fact no ones going to get paid for all of this effort except maybe the instance getting donations.
toothpaste, shampoo, lotion, such a mindless purchases for me but thats only because I figured out which ones I like
Its really cool and much more customizable than pinetime, I use android so for example there is a custom version of an app called gadgetbridge that comes with enhanced functionality like an appstore type experience for it.
Then you can do the setup on the device to customize even further. Its a lot to explain and too much to show here but its hugely more flexible than pinetime was in my experience.
Im glad I got my Bangle js 2 cause the pinetime was really glitchy and the software was slow to update. Not surprised its been a year.
Its gonna be really helpful later in my life thats for sure, for now not really.
Its becoming more clear that the only winning move is not to play. All of us should remember that twitter wasnt the best before musk either. Microblogging at such a large and worldwide scale is simply an outdated, deceptive, and abusive concept at this point. For a long time we have been fucking around and now we found out
I watched a video about this and it claims that social media has advanced and grown so much that our brains are still not used to it and we all act as if echo chambers are a bad thing when in reality its actually just how its been for our entire existence. Its how we are wired right now, atleast most of us besides Gen Alpha. Being active in a local tribe, community, city, etc. Not engaging with the entire world and thousands of people at once.
Does it count if it no longer exists? I miss plug.dj
No one cares to make a similar website or experience unfortunately.
I just gave up and use the navidrome website on desktop honestly. Android thankfully has Symfonium which would be cool if that could come to desktop but its unlikely since its paid.
Oh my fucking god Servo cannot get here soon enough.
Yes Ive been on bsky since early this year and really enjoyed it until everyone on the platform started kicking up dust over the election completely overreacting and spazzing out spewing the most idiotic things about identity politics, third party voters, trump being hitler, fascists it just lost all meaning. I used to be democrat and now consider myself moderate at this point and I just cant stomach following those kind of people anymore.
Not to mention childish adding labels on everyone and blocklists to decent people just completely power tripping cancel culture x10. Then all of a sudden I feel like its twitter all over again and I become incredibly annoyed at myself thinking it would ever change. Microblogging is so fucking stupid.
Downvoted. And when you downvote me I wont take it to heart. But being a contrarian under the guise as a free thinker then burying your head in the sand is the reason we’re in the mess we’re in.
When you get downvoted on some of your future posts and wonder why not many reply or interact with you dont get pissed off when others like myself use the data to be informed. You make a lot of generalizations and excuses for something that has been a vital part of the internet for decades.
You’re free to have that choice but the good thing about you making that choice is allowing others to discuss without asking you. Ill admit I didnt comment often either before coming here but the reason for that was I already would read similar comments to what I was thinking. Dogpiling was a problem on reddit but thats with all social media and even life in general.
Dont go on stage if you cant handle the crowd.
Agree to disagree about the rest of your points. However I disagree 1000% on the engagement argument because when youtube decided dislikes shouldnt exist it was an immediate reaction that it was bullshit.
The pressure is necessary no matter what. If you post some dumb shit dont expect to have just 2 likes. Expect to have 50 dislikes and 2 likes. It helps without even needing to add context, and if you felt especially strong about it then you can reply with that context. This “ape behavior” is called having an opinion without needing to state that you have an opinion all the time. Let the numbers speak for themselves.
Reddit was hated and still is hated because people actually challenged eachothers views (mostly) constructively while also organizing and fighting for change when possible. Upvoting, downvoting, commenting, and engaging all equally mattered. Until one day spez and all the reddit mods decided to let their platform eat shit.
There were places that circlejerked, no doubt about it, but what everyone fails to realize is that reddit was a place for pretty much everyone. So if you thought that subreddit was a circlejerk, feel free to join or make a different one. Like open source software getting forked.
All these different social medias want us to be trapped in some sort of bubble through the illusion of choice. The short character limit is also what causes these sites to always be inferior to places like reddit and lemmy whether they like it or not. No one has a chance to fully expand on what they actually think or cite sources instead of being blasted immediately after their first post by getting blocked, cancelled, or moderated to oblivion.
This is the dumbest thing I have ever seen and I cant believe its been going for all this time. Rich old idiots will pay for anything as long as it involves a naked lady I guess.
Cant help but congratulate these women taking advantage without having to do porn necessarily. From what I see on their YT channel they still put some amount of effort in the news part atleast.
