Depending how your friend feels about this person, it might be an idea to tell your friend how your feel about that other person. If your friend isn’t into the obsessed one while you are, you could arrange to all hang out together and your friend could effectively scrape the person off onto you. Win-win-win. Also, in my experience, it could simply be from the novelty that your friend is taking any amount of interest in being wanted like that. For most normal people it’s not common place for someone else to take that much of an interest in them. It can be an ego booster, disturbing or any combination of the 2.
