I know I have almost completely cut out cell phone use by way of doing everything on desktop. Even texting and calling with Google fi I do on my desktop via their web app. The less I need my phone for when I’m at home the better.

The reason I use Proton is to have a unique email for every account that cannot be used to find my original email address, and that I can delete at a moments notice if said email somehow gets on a spam list. Nobody except me knows my main account email. The + method does nothing for me.

My friend, I have to butt in here. Last year I switched from Gmail to Proton, and I have like 130 accounts I had to recreate or switch over. And I still have tons left on Gmail (100+, though many of which are effectively abandoned) so I’m ending up having to use both. Some things don’t let me change emails and it’s a ton of work to recreate them. Like some of my financial accounts or Google and its products, whose ecosystem I am still relatively entrenched in. (Slowly working on getting out of that mud but with a family who is also entrenched, it’s not that easy.) And many more services than those 2 types as well.

I would have loved to just have 5 accounts to chanfe and nothing else.

Hey I will give my anecdotal recent experience. Several months ago I switched to Pop! OS and have had basically no issues. I have an Nvidia GPU and I play a lot of games. I don’t play any games that are blocked by anti cheat (not because I can’t, I just don’t happen to play the few that are blocked).

I spent the first day getting everything signed in, installed, set up and tweaked to how I like it with very minimal terminal usage. Mostly gui and clicking.

Steam+Proton along with lutris makes it easy to play any game for me.

Side note: I have 4 monitors of varying resolution, size, orientation and refresh rate and it hasn’t caused problems other than the initial setup (I used cursr to help with this)

This is why I hate ACAB. The time it could take for a random good person to realize not only is their profession infested with evil, but then also find a new job and quit, is substantial enough that combined with the churn rate and number of cops, I may be calling millions of good people bastards for no good reason, which may actually make those people tend to disagree with me and my ideas that the police system itself is corrupt. They know they aren’t a bastard and from their perspective I’m just insulting them mindlessly. Someone insulting you for no reason can’t be that wise of a person, or have that good of an argument, they might think.

The system is corrupt. Many of the people are fine. Stop name calling people you’ve never met like children. Lower police funding. Demilitarize them. Restrict their powers. Investigate them more. Make punishments more strict for those with any power at all. But don’t call random people you’ve never met or even heard about bastards.

I just set this up yesterday, coincidentally. I have it behind a reverse proxy + subdomain so I and my wife can share notes easily wherever we are. Mainly shopping lists, projects, and other things.

The plug in “self hosted livesync” most likely. You need a couchdb server for it.
