Not that i engage in this particular variety myself, but this kind of activity typically gets more fun the deeper you dive in. I generally only watch esports, but the more i care about the outcome of a game, and the more i understand of the game, the more fun it is to watch. I can think of no better way of caring more about a game than siding absolutely with one of the teams and betting money on their victory.

there’s this little human thing called emotions that you might have missed, and some people are real bad at controlling them. the reasons behind that can be varied, but often they have a stake in the game (as in they’ve bet on it or similar).

I’d call it a pyrrhic victory at best. It’s like if Ukraine got Russia to use their nukes on them and there was no response from the rest of the world. Sure, you got them to use their strongest weapon, but you still got nuked and they’ll continue as usual.
