As for the travel argument, kids are so much fun to travel with! Experiencing new places through a child’s eyes!? They ask some great questions, and you get to hone in your own opinions as you decide the best way to explain life to them. Travel is the best way to raise tolerant and knowledgeable children. If you’re concerned about more… hedonistic travel just realize that you only get 18 to 20 years with them in your daily life, those designations will still be there. If you’re afraid that’s a long time then you likely haven’t had your 20th high school reunion yet.
it simply produces things with bugs
And the small companies will realize that you need to start investing in your QA again - because NO ONE does adequate QA any more. Every piece of software I interact with these days is shit. If you are a developer, I’m talking to you: your code might be great, but the overall product is shit because no one is adequately testing the functionality. I get it, Testing is expensive… but now that you need fewer developers, hire some QA engineers. Just because we’ve moved on to ‘continuous improvement’ doesn’t mean we can’t do better.
When China, the US or Google do break encryption they aren’t going to announce it.
I am surprised that some of his usual audience joined a platform specifically because of him.
You’re surprised that a privacy and security advocate and essayist with a large online following would have people who would take his advice on which social media platform is best for security and privacy?
Exactly!
I don’t hate TikTok because of its short videos, I hate it because the app is an assault on privacy and potentially a subversive tool to influence the public.
Me.
I followed him from Twitter to Mastodon, even though he didn’t exactly endorse Mastodon. If he were to endorse a platform I wouldn’t think twice about joining.

Until they restructure the way OpenAI did.
You’ve gotten a lot of good suggestions, and this comment might get buried but I wanted to let you know that I was there 20 years ago. The future looked bleak, I had a shitty job that was sucking my life force away… one day as I was walking into work through an alley I saw someone had left a shopping cart there. I had the thought that I could just grab that cart and keep walking… turn my back on my former life and just live my way. I passed that cart for 3 weeks… then I realized that I either need to grab the cart or find a different plan for my life. I then looked at my options, found a career path, and then started working toward that plan. It was about 3 years of very hard work, with very little social life. But I stuck with my plan, got a better job and stayed on that career path. There have been setbacks, but looking back those were just blips.
My newborn is now 8 years old and I still think holding her is the greatest feeling in the world.
I’m in the Indianapolis area, and we do have public transit… though I don’t know why.
I refer to them all as ‘The Library’.
Did you know you can borrow movies, books, music, and TV shows from The Library? It’s awesome!
Thanks, I was going to let it go because I was sure you just misunderstood what I was saying, and honestly it isn’t worth arguing over. But I appreciate you following up.
Why is ‘Latin America’ listed as of it is a continent? Mexico is part of North America.
And there are no Indians in Indiana.
To the tune of Home Again In Indiana:
There are no Indians, in In-diana Most were removed, through treaties And the Del-a-ware, had no care went to Miss-ou-ri, with ease The Shaw-nee screwed, the Mi-am-i With the treaty, of, Fort Wayne William Hen-ry Harr-i-son versus Te-cumseh The In-dian’s loss, became, whitey’s gain Now there are no Indians in In-diana
I find a young doctor in a suburb almost 10 years ago. He’s been great and he listens to me, has no problem taking my suggestions into consideration, and he often admits when he doesn’t know something and will literally Google it right there in the room. It took as while to find someone I like, but it was worth looking.
Honestly I’ve mostly been playing around with image generators and learning how to write a good prompt. But LLMs are where I see real value and would love to learn more about self-hosting one, and custom training it.
I find it interesting that the M2 is better for LLM than the M4 will be… what’s the reason for this?
Yes, that’s how it works when one thing is more expensive than another thing. But people do save up money through one part of their life to spend during another part of their life. And they aren’t the only people who used to think that Tesla’s were cool tech cars.
