What’s stopping corporate authoritarians from instantly shutting down all left-wing Internet content?

If that’s the only people using the addon, then they should adjust their extrapolation formula to account for the bias of their user base. Because like this it will only feed people’s confirmation bias through literal disinformation, making content look heavily disliked even when it isn’t.

I don’t, not that much anyway. But I’m even more allergic to clickbait than I am to ads, and I run ad blockers since their invention. If I ever click on a clickbait video I feel dirty and soon after even more determined to block those channels. So I quite literally just can’t.

And I block everyone who does, since I have no way of judging the content other than the low quality titles & thumbnails. I’m dubious about allegedly well researched content though. Lot’s of people for example recommend Perun, or Kurzgesagt too, which are both awful.

So a video getting like 80% dislikes in the addon, but like 90% likes in the backend, is an okay and totally not misleading metric to you? And I uninstalled the addon because of this.

They don’t have to, they choose to. There’s still people like Etho who don’t even ask for people to sub and post incredibly infrequently and still successfully maintain their views and audience simply through quality content. It’s more a matter of whether you do YT for yourself, or for the money. And nowadays the majority of people do it for the money. That’s why the content has become so piss poor over the years too. It’s all just commercialized garbage.

Yes, which YT actively encourages people to do. So ultimately nothing really changes.

It’s completely inaccurate though. It can show massive amounts of faux dislikes that don’t actually exist. This has been confirmed with youtubers, who still see the dislike ratio on their backend.

*Only directly misleading clickbait. So they’ll continue to promote other forms of clickbait like specific thumbnails or capitalized & ambiguous titles.

A state actor could definitely do those things. The question is why though. There’s not really anything to gain from that, they’d just lose money on it.

Mass & gravity are still way easier to understand on a fundamental level, especially since everything has a certain amount of mass and thus affects and is affected by gravity. It’s a much simpler concept. (“Natural”) magnetism is (so far) very material specific and I don’t think I’ve seen a good explanation as to why exactly. Magnets certainly behave very differently than other materials and that causes this mysticism in people when they think about magnets. Given the still ongoing research into magnetism and related things like superconductivity there’s certainly a lot still to learn.

I would not even trust it to summarize nuanced details in a lengthy article, let alone something science related (especially about new discoveries).

You think your personalized feed is not manipulated like this either? Or imagine someone new to the platform, he’s gonna immediately get bombarded by propaganda and disinformation, clicks on the videos, and then the personalized feed will feed them more of the same, radicalizing them even further.

And no, I’m not and I don’t. You’re clearly not getting the topic and why it is a problem.

By bad actors. Do you not remember The_Donald being practically at the top of everything on Reddit? Do you not understand why far right videos on YT & TicTok have so much traction? Everyone gets fed their own reality that completely contradicts with what is happening in the world, which is causing massive divisions among our societies.

I guess we’ll never know.
