Eh, I don’t think you’re necessarily wrong, but I imagine if evil CEOs just started dying more frequently that’d have some impact on the rest of them.
No way the average person working at Mcdonalds does anything but blow 60k even if they get it.
Edit: To be clear, I spent 4 years working at one. Good people, bad people, but not much economic sophistication in either group.
I use a “Lite App” that I setup in Hermit. Basically a sandboxed browser just specifically for this site. Seems to be working fine?
I bought two like two months ago and they still hold up. I was very leery buying a 2019 model in 2024 but zero regrets (and I’ll be getting another).
I wish it had another HDMI and 2.5GBE but those aren’t deal breakers by any means.
I’m not really shocked by these sorts of things anymore - just more evidence that Hollywood runs on nepotism/“who you know” like any other industry.
Edit: Also “insider information” privilege - knowing “what you do” to get certain jobs. That’s huge in my experience…

HD audio pass through ended up being reason I went with the shield pro. But it’s not “cheap” at ~$200 per unit. I still think that’s cheaper than a dedicated mini PC or something though (was really the only other option I saw for TrueHD).
Nvidia shields with an alternate home screen have been a good solution for me? TV isn’t connected to the network directly, just to the shield.
I’ve got RetroArch, Plex, Spotify on each of them - that sort of stuff.
Fuck that shit.
Fuck everything about Microsoft products. The different licenses are a nightmare, the programs are shit, and “FUCK YOU FOR TRYING TO INSTALL A PROGRAM OR USE LOCAL STORAGE” seems to be the default.
Also I don’t trust them not to be spying on users. But sure, every government job I’ve had we used the products.
Don’t get me wrong, I loved them as a kid, and it was a nice way to transition to “adult” books but not really my speed anymore and I imagine if I went back I’d think they were “bad.”
I specifically remember liking Rainbow Six around the same time and I liked his books until he started tag teaming with other authors which was probably around 2000?
Based on that I imagine his books from 1986-2000 are “similar” enough.
I recall liking it, but I read it in like the 5th grade so my standards were low (before that I’d been reading my mom’s terrible ‘caterer turned detective’ novels).
I enjoyed Clancy for a long time after that but at this point I aim more towards militaristic speculative fiction.
Don’t buy Apple?
Crap, well there goes that dream.
Well, I guess until I get back into tape drives…
My buddy runs a forensic lab and I have such storage envy. ☹️
You rock! Thanks for the link. This is the sort of thing that’d be cool to mirror… Wonder how big it is?
Folks who buy this thing should be put on a list.
