Yeah, the lack of formal definition of what is and is not considered ai definitely muddies the waters when talking about applications and capabilities.

There’s a combination of flaws. The strainer basket doesn’t do a very good job keeping debris out of the impeller. There’s little separation between the steainer and the impeller. So long hairs that are partially caught in the strainer can still wrap around the impeller.
The pump itself has a terrible impeller design. The impeller is nylon and is press fit onto a 1/8 brass rod that just has a flat ground on it, no knurling or splines. The nylon cracks easily and ends up free spinning.
They use the same pump in loads of washer models. So yes, there’s a very large user base, but that’s a lot of people with part failures. The pump is garbage and lg should not be using it.
I’m constantly replacing the drain pump in my LG washer. When a replacement part has thousands of reviews on amazon, you know the brand has to know their parts are crap and either doesn’t care or wanted it that way. They’re on my never buy list now.
Ai is already being incorporated into chip design tools like synopsys. TechTechPotato has an interesting interview with Aart de Geus that is relevant.
Ai is far off from making high level design improvements, but it can greatly reduce the workload on trace and route and other design steps.
I could be wrong, but I think XRD requires very pure crystals of sufficiently large size. That can help you ascertain the structure and composition of something you can synthesize and crystalize, but I don’t believe xrd can image specific regions of interest like single doping sites like this article talks about.
Synchrotron XRD also has a major drawback in having a very significant equipment requirement that requires being able send samples away for analysis at a dedicated facility. That puts limits on sample preparation and stability time, as well as sharing beam time with lots of other groups.
It’s been a while since I’ve read up on synchrotron xray diffraction though, so there could be workarounds for some of those limitation or I could be misremembering details.
These images are generated from processing many out of focus images while scanning across the area. They use the differences between the out of focus images to compute what must have caused those differences.
So this technique is pretty far from being able to capture real time events as it requires capturing hundreds of images to produce a single computed image. The paper talks about how thermal motion of the nuclei is what now dominates the limits of resolution for this method.
There are other ultrafast imaging techniques that can capture essentially real-time chemical reactions, but I believe those don’t come close to this spatial resolution.

I rented a Nissan that would scream at you for deviating from a lane. I couldn’t turn it off fast enough. Driving on a small winding road was constant false positives. Even on the highways, faded and repainted lines was throwing false positives. It was more of a distraction than a help. When driving in an unfamiliar city I didn’t need the car distracting me with its disfunction.
Turning it off was buried deep in a menu that was not convenient to find. There would be no way to quickly or safely toggle it on and off as conditions vary.
Rada makes some pretty decent metal spatulas if you want specific recommendations.
The blade part is way thinner than plastic spatulas. Now that I’m used to the stainless steel ones, I feel clumsy and inept when I have to use someone else’s nylon spatula.
Not Mr. Fusion, but a modest industrial facility that could fit in an industrial park rather than the very large ITER which has its own complex. The ARC reactor design from commonwealth fusion is expected to have a major radius of 3.3m whereas ITER has a major radius of 6.2m. That might not sound like a big difference, but material costs and supporting systems cost roughly scale with volume which is a factor of 8 difference.

Personally, I find this success to be way more exciting than the NIF breakeven shots. Those were neat milestones, but don’t get us closer to a feasible commercial design. This REBCO magnet demonstration makes commercial fusion a possibility in a timescale that could matter.

China and South Korea have much lower plant build cost and timelines. The really high delays and cost increases in the west are more an indication of problems in beauracracy and contract writing than fundamental to nuclear technology.

This guy DIY’d it way back in the early days of concrete extrusion. He actually let a college class I was in see it. It was definitely an involved project and the result was pretty rough around the edges. His system was pretty slow and took a substantial number of batches to complete. Getting the machine and mix balanced for extruding all in one go would be pretty difficult and you’d probably need to have it mix continuously rather than in batches.
Unfortunately I don’t remember much about the type of mix he used or the pumping system. So I can’t guide you in the right direction.
There’s something else wrong besides just excessive SEO. The other day I was trying to find a battery controller for a diy battery pack. I searched “rechargeable battery controller.” Every result on the first page was rechargeable battery packs for Xbox controllers. I understand how there could be a strong correlation, but it was every result being for Xbox controllers. So my conclusion is that Google search is doing more than correlating occurrence of search terms now. I think they’re running some sort of ai to guess what you intend to search based on what you typed then showing results based on that. So their system decided I was looking for a battery for an Xbox controller and showed only results for that search rather than a search of what I actually typed.
