I personally prefer like/dislike over a star rating system. Maybe, MAYBE having a middle “meh” rating would be helpful but at the end of the day you either recommend something or you don’t. If you ask a friend “should I play this?” and they say “idk man” that’s basically a recommendation to not play it.

I don’t believe there was any specific API in use here, for virus scanning or not. I suppose maybe the device driver API? I am not a kernel developer so I don’t know if that’s the right term for it.

Crowdstrike’s driver was loaded at boot and caused a null pointer dereference error, inside the kernel. In userspace, when this happens, the kernel is there to catch it so only the application that caused it crashes. In kernelspace, you get a BSOD because there’s really nothing else to do.

You might actually want to consider a DJI Power 500 or 1000. They’re actually portable power banks but can supposedly work in UPS mode, and will run for WAY longer than a traditional lead-acid battery UPS. See also Ecoflow’s options.

Google search is still better than bing, somehow. Gmail is good for signing up to stuff I don’t want mailing my protonmail. Google maps is still genuinely useful. Youtube is, for now, still better than any alternative I know about. I don’t see what’s wrong with Pixel phones.

I program professionally in C# and I gotta say, it really isn’t for that. You can do services in it, but that’s as low level as I’d suggest. It’s definitely a high level language for rapid dev of web and desktop stuff.

Mm, that could be a problem for the battery even if it does connect. You could probably work around it if you really wanted to; solar powered repeater high up somewhere between the box and the house. But that’s getting into silly territory. :P

No problem. The one I used is an ESP32 DevKitC, and you can find info about it on Espressif’s site, or just google the pinout diagram. For basic tasks it should be all you need since it has lots of binary pins, two ADC channels, two DAC channels, realtime clock, special pins for waking it from deep sleep, two I2C, etc. Though if you want to do video input you probably want something else, I’m learning.

Anyway, if you can spare the money to get one just to toy with I’d definitely recommend it.

Yeah, all it does is tell me when something is obscuring one of the sensors. I figure anything that gets put in there which is small enough to fall in a way it covers neither isn’t going to be important enough to worry about.
