  • Ah fuck, I worded that poorly. No, talking about it is fine, but thanks for asking! I don’t mean the physical sensation is the same, like how you can feel a bug on your arm. Speaking for myself, it’s like the mental reaction of “ick there’s a bug on my arm, I have to get it off”. There’s no physical itch or tickle on my skin. I was trying to make that comparison because generally when there’s a bug on you, it doesn’t bother you if you don’t notice it, and you might not even realize it’s there for a while. But once you notice it or someone points it out, it’d be hard to just ignore it, even if you couldn’t feel it on your skin at all.

As I’m typing this out, I’m realizing that it’s possible that not everyone experiences quite as strong a reaction to having a bug on their skin that I do, especially as a person with ocd, lmao. But if you do, well, hopefully this helps!

  • Not the person you responded to, but for me it comes and goes as a result of OCD. It does hurt, but not terribly. To describe the urge, it’s a bit like if there’s a big bug on your arm. Once you notice it, it’s difficult to not immediately swat it away, and until you do get it off, you’re gonna be very aware that there’s a bug on your arm. It’s pretty much the same feeling, just directed toward hair instead of bug.

It might be totally different for other people, but that’s just my experience.

Hell yeah OP!!! You fuckin rock! I bet you’re gonna sleep like a gd baby tonight!! (I know I always rest better after finally getting that thing I’ve been putting off done.)

Here’s a somewhat related comic for your viewing pleasure (but mostly for my sharing pleasure tbh)

  • I started buying dry beans recently and it has been a complete game changer for me. Same goes for things like rice, potatoes, and oats. My grocery bill is way lower than it used to be, and I haven’t have to skip meals to get through the month in a while. I spend a bit more time cooking now, but I’m a college student with no kids or other major responsibilities, so it’s not a big deal in my case. I’ve honestly started to enjoy cooking, and my roommates are nice about helping me learn.

I dunno why I’m putting all this out there, I guess I’m just happy about it. I grew up hungry, not to the extent that some kids do, but enough that it took a toll. This is the best nourished I’ve been in my life, and the difference it’s made caught me by surprise. I feel better physically, obviously; but I also never realized how much the stress was weighing on me. It’s hard to explain, but I feel like a whole different person without it, y’know?

Sorry for getting off topic. I hope it’s okay if I leave this here for my own sake lol. But yeah! Rice and beans ftw! xD

  • I’m looking forward to the day when “certified human content” is a thing, and that’s all search engines allow you to see.

I can’t wait for that. I get the feeling it’s gonna get real messy before we figure out solutions to all the problems caused by AI-generated content.

I mean yeah, there’s already plenty of human-generated misinformation and shit, but it seems to me (not an expert) like ai is capable of fucking with society on a whole new scale.

  • Ok, I have a question for you guys.

I consider myself to have an internal monologue, but it doesn’t just run all the time. Like, sometimes my thoughts have words, and sometimes they don’t. Is it like that for the rest of you who have an IM? I always assumed it would be, but considering some people don’t have one at all, it wouldn’t surprise me that much if some people had one constantly.

I really tried to word this in a way that makes sense… sorry if it doesn’t lol.

  • I agree that we should defederate. I like it here, but I’ll definitely change instances if Lemmy.world decides to federate with threads (or any similar platform) and isn’t very cautious about it. No hurt feelings of course, if I’m not part of the majority here, but from the responses I’ve seen so far it seems like most people here agree.

I do respect one thing, and it’s that everyone I’ve encountered in this discussion is interested in keeping the fediverse alive and well. ╰( ‿)╯
