There’s a chance this isn’t being done by someone who only wants Wikipedia’s data. As the amount of websites you scrape increases, your desire to use the easy tools loses out to creating the most general tool that can look at most webpages.

So is the argument now we should act like China?
Unironically, I think most people who are going to Red Note might think so.

pewter@lemmy.worldto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Has Fast Food Gotten Worse, or Am I Just Getting Old?361·8 months agoThe answer is probably “yes”
- Food is probably worse.
- Your taste buds might have changed.
- Your gut bacteria might be different.
I have a couple reasons for believing each.
- Nutrient concentration in food has decreased over time (Veritasium talked about a fascinating explanation for this) and the desire to find low cost alternatives like HFCS over cane sugar changes the taste of food.
- “Children prefer higher levels of sweet and are more sensitive to bitter tastes until adolescence.”
- Your gut microbiome literally changes over time.
pewter@lemmy.worldto TenForward: Where Every Vulcan Knows Your Name@lemmy.world•We gotta keep our composure!8·9 months agoI rewatched it when Disney+ rolled out. The first few episodes definitely hold up. Something like the first 4 or so episodes were all part of one really solid story arc. I think I stopped watching somewhere after season 1 though.
Portuguese is a romance language so it has Latin roots. Latino would still apply.

pewter@lemmy.worldto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Anyone else feel like Trump has a much higher chance to win then Presidency than Kamala?101·11 months agoI hear female supporters refer to her as Kamala. I think it might have more to do with the uniqueness of the name. I don’t know of anyone who referred to Sarah Palin as Sarah.

You get more space, there’s no TSA, you don’t get charged for bringing luggage, you can carry on liquids, you get leg room, the wifi is decent.
But if I’m traveling a really far distance… For example, if I’m going from California to New York I’d rather go by plane. Going by train for that seems to be pretty horrible. America is in desperate need of a ground transportation that can get from California to New York quickly.

If you have blackened lungs on the cigarette packaging I can’t imagine choosing to smoke.
On social media, you basically have to destroy my experience for me to stop using it in the same way. All effective options are terrible: ads, microtransactions, auto-playing unexpected sounds, nonresponsive interfaces.

I know someone who was tricked by those deepfake Kelly Clarkson weight loss gummy ads. It looks super fake to me, but it’s good enough to trick some people.

pewter@lemmy.worldto Technology@lemmy.world•Voice analysis shows striking similarity between Scarlett Johansson and ChatGPTEnglish61·1 year agoIt sounds somewhat like her character from the movie Her to me, but based on the standards set by the entertainment industry it seems reasonable for her to lose the lawsuit. If you can’t hire an actor for a role, you can get a voice actor to do a similar voice. This is done often in animation.
Crispin Glover’s lawsuit against Back to the Future 2 could have set a precedent for image likeness, but he ended up settling, so it seems the industry is just avoiding this problem instead.
It’s never happened to me either. Maybe he’s experiencing some weird regional thing.
