As others have pointed out, we have agencies to do exactly that, but people voted decisively against them this past election

*limited exceptions. You can’t trust law enforcement. If you give them any leeway they will abuse the he’ll out of it, so you still need some serious oversight to make sure they aren’t trampling people’s rights in the name of “safety”.

Truly cutting edge experimental stuff should be air gapped but that would cost money which would interfere with corporations rights to make unlimited money (which is far more important than your right to safety) so we can’t have that

It’s basically a variation of ‘Cheap, fast, or good: pick two’ When free is a requirement it really limits what your options are. Running servers costs money.

How much are you jerking it? How has it affected your relationships? Are you jerking it to the point you’re not having sex with your gf? Is it interfering with other activities or responsibilities? Were you happy in those relationships to begin with?

I won’t use any smart tv features. As soon as they’re connected to the internet they start sending data about everything you do. So I plug in an apple tv and stream everything through there. We have a FireTV and it nags me to connect it to the internet every time I turn it on. I hate it. We also have an LG. It does exactly as I would expect and I’m pretty happy with it. I’ve had good luck with other LG products in the past.

I use their stuff. I can’t complain about their vpn. I generally have it on in the background by default and I’ve rarely had issues with speed. And if a server is slow there are tons of others to select from.

They claim they don’t keep logs and so far I haven’t had any reason to doubt that. This is their whole reason for being since the Snowden leaks.

I also use their email, but it’s not my primary email. That’s mostly because of my setup. I really hate web based email so I always use an email client and they offer ProtonMail Bridge that makes it possible to use it inside an email client, but until recently I was running Linux. I think I got fed up with fucking around with Thunderbird and the bridge tool, but I gave up. Now I have a Mac and their tool works flawlessly, so I’m using the ProtonMail a little more.

Social media for anything else is just toxic, so other than niche things, I get most of my news from news sites now (that way I don’t have to see all the awful comments that just infuriate me).

I’m not saying tech doesn’t have a place. Obviously we shouldn’t go back to drawing things in dirt with a stick. But we’ve tried EVERYTHING except for what would make a significant improvement: the best teachers and more time in the classroom.

Ok. I guess we should keep throwing tech at the problem. It’s worked so well so far as we can see by our students just crushing the rest of the world academically. /s

We don’t need more technology in schools. We need more time and to pay teachers more so we can attract the best people to the field. Technology can’t solve everything and our educational system has been under attack for at least 30 years. You wanna fix education? Fund it like the military.
