That’s cool AF. Shodan shows lots of cool things that I don’t think anybody minds being seen, but it also gives search results that could be used nefariously. It’s probably the coolest and creepiest tech product I’ve ever seen.
I’m just marking the point that the boards lost all semblance of being an actual community. I hadn’t been using 4chan for years by the time HWNDU popped up. Discord just became the new 4chan socially imo. I’m saying that HWNDU is probably going to be the last 4chan bit that makes the website feel bigger than itself. There hasn’t really been any major newsworthy 4chan trolls since then. If there was enough community there for one to happen after that, I’m sure we would have seen one by now.
There was a point where the people in the cross section between smart enough to actually pull shit off but still dumb enough to do said dumb shit. It’s not nostalgia, it’s just the site’s userbase has changed quite a bit. Like how the install Gentoo meme slowly disappeared from /g/ as population of the site actually became too stupid to install Gentoo. These are places that used to have full wikis people would regularly maintain to tell people about the board culture and common knowledge, the people who actually added to the feeling of community are gone.
The communities on the site are objectively shittier and less built than they were a decade ago. It was like a slower version of the Reddit burn. There’s been a slow shift of these sorts of people to discord and other similar platforms that leaves 4chan a completely different community pretending to be the “original”.
He will not divide us wouldn’t happen on current 4chan. Certainly stupid and immature trolling, but there was just so much there that it’s impossible not to be entertained by it.
Shodan is good for violating other people’s privacy without them knowing it lol
They’ve just always done this. I think it has something to do with not having enough snapdragons for demand
The impacts on Reddit are going to be more long term than anything. The technically literate base that attracted people to Reddit is gone. Right now, attaching Reddit to the end of a search is a good idea to get the answers you want. All the open source people are gone now, Google results are already hurting. The most attractive part of Reddit is already starting to disappear. It’ll be a slow decline as users can’t find the content they want.
I think this is the 5th time I’ve seen this headline.
