The average user of Lemmy has more empathy with a two times convicted rapist than with Amber Heard or that one woman from this atrocious Tiger King series.

Jep, Not even two years for his second rape.
Murder doesn’t get laughable sentences. Like under two years for a repeated offender.
Murderes also normally don’t have a whole bunch of people online rallying behind their right of redemption. It’s only rapists who get this and suddenly everyone turns into Jesus online and demands the victims better forgive them!
Why is this “especially relevant to rape cases”?
What do you think can restorative justice look like for crimes like torture (that is what rape is)?
“Trauma is part of life”? Murder and dieing is also part of life. Sorry, but that just doesn’t make sense. Trauma in a clinical sense is certainly not “part of life”.
There is no reason why rape is judged much less severely than torture though.
In the absolute majority of rape cases there is no bettering themselves happening because the rapists never face any consequences to begin with.
What a dishonest bs. It’s not the scientists who communicate these dumbed down “theories”, it’s journalists and trivial science books and shows.
Makes me loose all respect for the author.
At the university where I studied professors were constantly talking about what we don’t know. Formulated every theory extremely carefully, there was no “it is like that”. What kind of scientists is he talking about?
Experiencing social consequences for saying something people disagree with is not infringing on your freedom. Unless they band together and try to go further than simply not liking what you have to say, how is that stopping men from saying their opinion on 4chan?
Independently, I wouldn’t call 4chan a liberal place. As far as I know, 4chan started and participated in activities in the past that go far beyond simply not liking an opinion. They doxxed, harassed and threatened people, among other things. And with support from many people on that platform.
Can you give a few examples of what men can’t say or do completely freely in liberal places?
Can you give a more precise example? I hope you do not mean individuals who write stuff online. In what way do left oriented organisations treat all men like they are bad?
How exactly are men treated by the left? Perhaps you can give some examples so people understand what your problem is.
Which of those issues are in place because men are oppressed as being inferior instead of being gender expectations that feminism targets? Meaning: which are a consequence of gender expectations?
High suicide rate is connected to men more likely to have access to guns and because they are less likely to go to a doctor because of gender expectations.
Loneliness is on the rise for everyone. Some studies find more loneliness in women. The idea of “the male loneliness epidemic” is meme that just generates tons of clicks and engagement. It’s not real.
For the work place it’s again a problem of gender expectations. It’s not because people see men as inferior.
So are the next three.
Men are actually more likely to get custody if they ask for it. You have fallen for a manosphere conspiracy theory that has no basis in reality. Women more often get custody because when both parents work, the men’s job is respected, the women’s isn’t. They get automatically assumed to be the caregiver because of gender expectations. The only thing a man has to do is literally ask for custody. On the other hand, a single mother who is expected to do the brunt of the caregiving, can’t force the father to take more time with the kids. Simply because of gender expectations.

People pirate and then wonder why small developer studios for example go broke or software becomes more expensive or less plenty. It’s so dumb it hurts.
We do not know if the person was bullied or just had an extreme sense of entitlement or some other type of personality disorder which made them believe everyone who didn’t treat them a specific way was bullying them.
Organisations and groups who want to protect privacy should come up with ways themselves on how to protect their services from certain activities.
Since the idea seems to be that pirating digital goods is a moral imperative, the question what are the consequences if everyone would do it is valid.
I never thought it would bother me, until I actually sat in a car where everything was dependent on software the first time.
At first I thought I was just getting old. But it dawned on me that relying on software to fucking roll down the windows or starting the car doesn’t feel too good.
(It was also an extreme jump in technology for me because the last car I drove before that was an old Corsa around the year ~2005.)
