I’ve had iPhones, Oneplus phones, and a Pixel since. The Blackberry was the best experience overall.
The Blackberry Passport was the best smartphone I ever used:
Blackberry Hub let you manage texts, emails, whatsapp/messaging apps, and facebook/social media messages all from the same app, accessible at any time by swiping from the left side of the screen
You could sideload and run Android apps for anything that didnt have a Blackberry native app
The physical keyboard was also a touchpad
Also remember to be nice. I see heated arguments regressing into ad hominems by the third comment pretty regularly. We can be better than Reddit
Is it? I still get regular updates. Yes there are a few, i use Morph
Thanks for the elaboration. I’m not familiar with how Signal works.
Less than some. The US gov has a history of forcing US-based corporations to disclose private data regardless of their policies or the law.
I can’t give you a good alternative though. I’m sure the same thing happens in many countries
It’s a messaging app, it’s useless if there is nobody to message. I dont have any friends using signal yet.
Also it doesnt work on my phone (Ubuntu touch). There used to be a community app but it’s not currently working.
I sincerely wish them success, but it’s hard to have faith that a US-based company will actually protect your privacy. Not that Telegram does either. I dont know what information they do even collect.
I couldnt find a working Ubuntu touch app last i tried to use it
Nothing new here. E2E is only available in one on one chats and is disabled by default. Dont use Telegram if privacy is your main concern.
At least it has an open-source client. Very few messaging platforms can say that, and fewer have a decent UX.
It’s not perfect, but it’s got a good combination of features and multi-platform availability. None of the other messaging apps support all of my devices except Matrix, and Matrix doesn’t have stickers
Edit: Signal doesn’t support all my devices but maybe someday! The network effect is also big. None of my family and friends are on Signal, but most have Telegram. A few have Matrix.
Also Signal is a US-based company.
Edit 2: Matrix does have stickers, i guess I’m switching
With mushrooms i often rely on other citizen scientists rather than the ID robot. There are some very friendly and active mycologists who can be a big help figuring out an ID or telling you what to photograph next time to get better data
Thanks! I will check this one out too
i upload photos i take of plants, birds, mammals, reptiles, fungi, and bugs. The observations (photos + location + annotation) are uploaded to a public database accessible to researchers and universities.
I’ve been involved in multiple species range expansions, and i’ve documented both endangered and invasive species. Pretty fun!
The Android app is very good. The iOS app is good for uploads, but lacks a lot of browsing features like search filters and phylogenetic trees. If you are on iOS i suggest using it in a browser except for observation uploads
You can also upload audio recordings for bird and bug sounds. It’s amazing what you can learn about your local ecosystem!
IBT is on the stronger/darker side, Darjeeling is on the lighter side.
IBT should be rich, dark, high in caffeine, with a strong flavor that doesnt get overpowered by milk, or ruined by a little oversteeping. It can still be burned if you use water that’s too hot.
Darjeeling should be amber-colored, light tasting, moderate in caffeine, and should have some floral notes. The flavors can be drowned out by milk or oversteeping in my opinion. Best black and lightly steeped in sub-boiling water.

Not the 12 afaik
I’ve mainly used an iPhone 13 and a Pixel 7 pro for comparison, but both have consistently worse cameras than the 6T.
I mostly take close-up photos of plants for iNaturalist, and with both the iPhone and the Pixel i have a very hard time getting it to focus on the right spot long enough to get a good photo. The 6T is much better at maintaining the correct focus IME than either newer phone.
Both the Pixel and the iPhone will frequently try to refocus on something in the background just as I’m framing the shot. I have a third-party camera on the pixel with “manual” focus, but it’s not as easy to use as the OP6T. The iPhone is less bad about random focus changes if i’m taking a picture of a flower in good light, but leaves and stems frequently give me trouble.
I also prefer the color balance on the OP6T to that on the Pixel or iPhone. Much more true to life IMO
My 6t was the best Android i ever had. I still havent found a smartphone with a better camera than that one (including modern iPhones and Pixels).
Too bad about the Oppo merger ruining a lot of what made Oneplus good. The lack of support for loading alternative roms was the final straw for me. I dont want to be chained to the very short device lifespan the manufacturer supports.
Thanks for the tip!
“jk" means “just kidding”. i couldn’t think of a better way to show i was not serious
