Once you start remembering where the buttons are you get to the advantageous part which is using the controls without ever having to take your eyes off the road.

What would it look like to start from scratch with a massively simplified standard for specifying UIs, based on all we’ve learned since html/css was invented?

Probably a lot better. The difficult, and expensive, part is getting everyone to migrate over to this new standard, not because it’d be unfeasible but because companies don’t want to spend any time or money on things that they don’t think will make them profit.

What we’d need is, for example, the EU realizing that Google’s attempted monopoly on the internet is dangerous and requiring a certain standard for private consumer-facing websites to get the ball rolling.

I think Biden still believes that things can swing back in the midterms or next presidential election. I don’t think he realizes that this might have been the last election that was possible to win.

If he does something drastic, he’d probably hand even more popular support to the Republicans in general and to Trump in particular who would play victims as much as they could.

If he does nothing, it might be the end of democracy, not just in the US but in most of the world. But he will have “accepted defeat gracefully” and considering he won’t live to see the worst of it, I imagine that’s all that matters.

DC actually has a higher “let go” threshold than AC does so you’d likely be more okay from a slightly higher voltage DC shock than a lower voltage AC shock.

I’d just like to note that a lot of storage technologies that are currently in the pilot project stage are based on using components with existing supply lines to minimize the time and effort needed to scale up production.

What do you mean AC “lets you go”? AC causes muscle contractions which keep you from, for example, letting go of a live wire.

Can’t change the past, only decide what to do in the future. I agree that it should have been done straight away but perfect shouldn’t be the enemy of good, going back to check up on it is better than not doing anything.

Not only that but it makes it easier to care about one another, which gives a greater incentive to unionize.

Mythbusters proved that there are fecal bacteria everywhere and as such you can never reasonably completely avoid it. However, they didn’t prove whether there are other bacteria or viruses that are kept contained with a closed lid compared to with an open lid, or if the viral/bacterial load is lower with a closed lid.
