  • ooh i see so it doesnt fall under formal logic. interesting! honestly that makes me feel even more strongly against it lol. but still more than anything it comes down to rationalizing an irrational process – after all even speaking the language of faulty logic is a way of turning things into logic!

yea i didnt specify it in my own answer but i think egocentric bias is a good fit. however even that expression does not inherently convey the hostility that OP is experiencing!

  • It’s just a broad umbrella concept in formal logic. what makes you think this interaction is best described by logic and not psychological or social dynamics? it’s not like the fuckin dude is publishing a research paper. op has someone busting their aglets and wants to find words to describe the experience. what makes you think their chief complaint is the same concept that can describe the statement “all cats are black”

  • Why do we need to nounify it? It doesn’t need to be a special concept. Find the words for what they’re doing and describe it.

It sounds like they’re invalidating your experiences and struggling to recognize perspectives outside their own.

I guess if you really want to nominalize it, call it “hand-waving”. oh that doesn’t count. just anything but “anecdotal evidence” because I beg you please do not try to communicate your own subjective emotional experiences by using haughty, dry logic 101 vocabulary.

why? because it’s the fastest way to get lost in the bullshit of “is it or isnt it?!” and completely lose the conversation from focusing on how this person is treating you.

Using anecdotal evidence is not inherently abusive… this shitty behavior is

I dont think I’ve hardly ever seen someone asking for sources on obvious truths or pretend a source is lying. They just say Nuh uh or Cuss out

I have, however, seen a LOT of people claim shit that isn’t true at all and try to pass it off as basic fact, and

I’ve seen even more people post sources that don’t actually say what they’re trying to prove.

And i dont think this is really the point of the Google it conversation
