Test-driving them both now.
I had a feeling this would happen. I have to use Google services for a lot of things at work and Edge works fine with them. Firefox usually does okay, but not always. And now Firefox is requiring you to hand over your data to them.
Can any Chromium-based browser refuse to turn on V3 or is it too baked-in without forking the entire project?
I think it’s difficult to avoid feeling that way. Part of me feels bad about it because I know the other side would be laughing their asses off if we were the ones feeling betrayed. But now is not the time to gloat, there’s too much we have to do to fight this as best we can.
They only value (mostly white) men. Everyone else should either not exist or be functionally invisible. Women are baby factories and sperm receptacles. Children are a hindrance and shouldn’t be seen or heard until they’re adults, although exceptions can be made for child laborers. They essentially view others only in terms of what value they can offer. Children require resources, their net value is negative until they can work, their own children included.
You may have noticed Don Jr and Eric don’t seem to around the current administration. You don’t have to be a psychologist to realize their relationship with their father isn’t a good one, even as adults. They were not as useful as expected, deemed low-value, and have been relegated to echoing their father’s bullshit on social media.
Governmental advocates for mandatory backdoors have no clue that they effectively make encryption moot. UK users will only be silghtly less secure with no encryption vs. backdoored encryption.
Free Speech Absolutist 🤣
It’s been obvious for a while that spez is trying to be a Musk/Zuck.
Enshittification intensifies.
spez is slow walking Reddit to the graveyard.
I looked at Joplin before switching to Obsidian from OneNote. It has a mobile app but I don’t know if it does local storage or not.
I don’t know if he specifically wants that so much as he doesn’t care if it happens.
He seems to think that doing this will force manufacturers to build in the US, versus the Biden approach of incentivizing them to do that. What he doesn’t realize this will do is raise chips prices and manufacturers will simply pass that cost onto consumers.
I suspect this is part of his strategy to hand Taiwan over to the PRC, if “strategy” can be used to describe anything he does.
I got out just in time, it seems.
How much longer will Bluesky survive without doing the same?
I know this got a lot of downvotes, that’s fine. Most of my friends are not tech-savvy or young, they’re not going to be signing up for Lemmy or Mastodon. I’m not ready to lose touch with them entirely. I have taken steps to limit what info Meta can collect from me and stopped posting there entirely. I check in now and then to see if there’s anything big, but that’s it.
Shoot one CEO in NYC and the entire state goes nuts.
I’m waiting to see what happens before I make any moves. I’ve been on Meta apps for over a decade, I don’t want to lose the connections if I don’t have to.
Eventually, it will be all AI-generated users, selling AI-generated products to each other and Zuck will no longer have to pretend to be human.
I’m in Western NY, but even in NYC it’s less than 9%. The state offers a lot of support for quitting, perhaps that’s why.
There are two kinds of Americans. One kind fully understands what’s going on and is horrified. The other kind thinks it’s fine(if they think about it at all) but only because they figure they won’t be affected by it. Right now, that second group dominates. At some point, the numbers will tip in the opposite direction, but it won’t be pleasant.
