  • It’s not about making big money. These small time landlords still drive up the cost of rents by going with “market rates” and increasing rents over time. They are just “small time greedy”.

Not nearly as evil as large scale landlords obviously, but rare to nonexistent is a landlord who won’t continually raise rent when they don’t need to.

EDIT: LOL you idiots can downvote me all you want it doesn’t mean I’m wrong, because I’m not.

I’ve rented from mostly small time landlords, more importantly I’ve worked with, and currently work with people who buy and own extra rentals as side businesses to rent out. They brag about having tenants pay their mortgage, and I hear their experiences of raising rents to get more money (their mortgage hasn’t changed, they just want more). They both laugh and complain when tenants need things fixed, they delay and try to figure out how to go cheap or “how can I legally place the responsibility on the tenants”.

Decent landlords are a small minority. Most who do this are leaches. Fuck landlords.

  • Eh, I don’t think this is the best solution.

The assumption is as soon as you turn 17 you’re smart enough and have the critical thinking skills to navigate social media without it negatively affecting you? Kinda dumb.

There could be an argument that at least try to block it while young peoples brains are still developing, maybe there’s benefit in that.

Older people than 16 are still duped by propaganda, and become addicted to social media, and all the negative consequences.

What we need is regulation imo. Good, smart, progressive, altruistic regulation that is for the benefit of all. Ain’t gonna happen though, because sOcIaLiSm and “mUh FrEeDoMs”.

  • Exactly. The “love thy enemy” nonsense always got me too:

Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you

    • Mathew 5:44

Think about slavery in history. Christianity was forced upon slaves in US history. Think about current era people working horrible conditions, factories, sweatshops, whatever. What a CONVENIENT verse for the slave owners.

Just be good, do what you’re told, don’t fight back, and love your enemy (exploiter/persecuter). If you do, promise of heaven like you said.

But if you disobey (commit murder, dare I say of the person exploiting you), infinite and eternal torture and suffering in hell.

Also don’t commit suicide, that’s a sin too so straight to hell if you do.

    Its just so fucking obvious.

  • I love chatgpt, and am dumbfounded at all the AI hate on lemmy. I use it for work. It’s not perfect, but helps immensely with snippets of code, as well as learning STEM concepts. Sometimes I’ve already written some code that I remember vaguely, but it was a long time ago and I need to do it again. The time it would take to either go find my old code, or just research it completely again, is WAY longer than just asking chatgpt. It’s extremely helpful, and definitely faster for what I’d already have to do.

I guess it depends on what you use it for ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.

I hope it continues to improve. I hope we get full open source. If I could “teach” it to do certain tasks someday, that would be friggin awesome.

  • I dont know I’d still argue America is still very much winning at capitalism, because they’re cheating, and always have. The low level consumer is irrelevant.

China has a super cheap EV that’s better quality and price than anything else sold in the US? Institute massive tarrifs or just completely block them from being sold here.

The capitalists are staying rich and still getting richer. They’re winning. Consumer isn’t even given the option to buy the cheap China EV, or has to jump through hurdles and hoops to get the option, which very few will do.
