My grandfather used to say this all the time. He was such a humble man, too, so it always got a good “dad joke” chuckle. Glad to see it’s still out there.

Fortunately, by way of the serial number, his was not one of the effected units, but I had the same question you did when I saw this article.
bcgm3@lemmy.worldto Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•Would alcohol be as popular if it weren't a beverage?English3·28 days agoLike I bet if alcohol was something you had to snort…
This reminded me of this ancient internet video where a few guys (allegedly) “inhale” alcohol by adding dry ice and breathing in the vapors. Doesn’t look to be very effective, but if it was, I’d at least try it.

bcgm3@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What is your favorite way to Jazz up cheap ramen?English3·2 months agoSoft boiled egg, always. I usually have some kimchi, so that, too. Got a bag of nori sheets for sushi, so I cut up some of that as well. Made my own chili oil, and a friend got me some momofuku chili crisp, and I alternate between those two. Always growing some green onion out back, so some of that, too… Sliced ham? Hell yeah. I also keep a jar of pickled carrots shreds, so why not. Thin slivers of red onion, too. Toasted sesame seeds sometimes, just a little, for texture.
Ramen takes a long time to make at my place, but I got just about whatever you could want.

Despite having his bare ass spanked by a woman with a fly swatter, the perpetrator was never caught.English16·3 months agoCrazy. Today at work I accidentally pressed the intercom button on my phone and approximately 600 people unexpectedly heard a really loud “BOOP” with no message or followup whatsoever, all at the same time, and it made me think of this.

bcgm3@lemmy.worldto Technology@lemmy.world•I put my heart and soul into this AI but nobody caresEnglish33·5 months agoNow, to any person who has ever seen an AI image or indeed seen anything in the real world, you’d think it would be obvious that these are fake images. … And yet, other each of this images there are hundreds, sometimes thousands of positive comments. …
So braindead and stereotypical are these comments that you might think they are themselves AI generated. But, picking a few at random, I checked out their profiles and they seem genuine. … They did also all seem to be active churchgoers but that must be some kind of coincidence…
Shots fired.
bcgm3@lemmy.worldto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Are there any better mechanical keyboards that don't break the bank?English2·5 months agoI was in the market for a new keyboard recently, and came down to either a Redragon or a HyperX, and I ended up going with the latter just because it was on sale. I’m happy with the HyperX, but I think either would have been just as good for me.
Very similar details to what you wrote here – they have their own switches, feels nice, inexpensive, RGB… I got black “pudding” key caps to replace the stock ones, but there are plenty of pink options too.
Only thing I don’t think works for OP is that I don’t see any HyperX keyboards with a white base, only black. Redragon has at least a few white base keyboards, though.

Cricket here. The service is relatively cheap, they offered a bunch of phones for cheap/free (with a new account), and I’ve never had any issues with the quality of the service/signal. I like not being locked into anything. The monthly bill hasn’t changed in years, and that’s nice too.
The only “real” album that came out in 2024 that I listened to start-to-finish was Hyperdrama by Justice. It got a lot of flak online for being “uninspired” etc etc, but I think that mostly speaks to how great their first two studio albums were. The opening track on this one features Tame Impala and has an equally awesome music video.
After that, second place would be a tie between two 2024 live albums: ¡Blow it … at Madison’s Quinceañera! by Me First and The Gimme Gimmes and Beast of Horns by They Might Be Giants. I got the latter on vinyl for Christmas and it’s a lot of fun if you’re a fan.
I reference relevant Pete & Pete bits every now and then, and I always get a look like I quoted some esoteric scripture from an alien planet.

There are few greater antipoles to me and “my whole thing” than my dad, but… He taught me the value of being cautious, and to take time to extensively evaluate pros and cons before I made important decisions. I took that ball and ran with it, and now I am routinely praised by my peers for my ability to foresee potential pitfalls and preemptively negate them, and reflexively I think of my dad who would suggest that it was just common sense.
Of course it’s not just “common sense” – but rather a curious mindset and an intentional thought process – and you instilled that in me, Dad. Thank you.
