1·5 months agoWLED its built to work with ESP8266 / ESP32 So I recommend just getting an ESP8266; its the older and cheaper of the two at $15 for 5 (clone)
I was asking about RGB strip because using WLED effectively means you will be using one of some sort. I don’t think I would build it the same way but if I wanted to solve the problem with LED Strips I would get this
This strip is nice because it has cutlines after every LED (some strips have the cut lines at every 3) If you are comfortable soldering you can cut the LEDs apart and use wire to connect them together to get things from house to house
That could be an awesome solution to OPs biggest challenge
I use WLED a lot with strip lights and things and it works great
If you do WLED you should have no need for a bread board. Just get an ESP8266 with male headers and a nice(ish) 12V power supply that can run your strip. From Arduino to LED strip you only need to connect the data pin and ensure 12V PSU ground and 5V PSU ground are connected.
I am leaving the hiding of wires out because I have no clue.
I am curious as to what strip you are planning to use as you will need to (at least from my perspective) hack it apart and extend it with wires to get it nice.
(I advocate for RGB LEDs even though you only need warm white; the stupid stuff you can do with RGB on top of it having warm white is worth it)
Google does a lot of standards breaking things.
Like allowing a link on Google Apps Marketplace to open a new window (like popup) with POST instead of GET. (This pretty much ensures that buying an app will fail for browsers that follow the spec)
I was hoping for free :( BUT $150 for Zeiss lenses is pretty ok price wise. (especially when we are complaining about $150 on top of a $3500 device)

My DNS setup at the moment is lazy I am using NextDNS. It lets me individual rules for each vlan though which I like as it gives a lot of control.

- Put IoT devices on IoT WiFi
- Put home automation and IoT crap on my Kubernetes cluster
Best place to start if you’re taking security seriously; Implementing file encryption for example has to start with “I would rather that I myself potentially lose access to this data than for it to possibly fall into another person’s hands.”
I also want to point out that a lot of these games purposefully misclassify themselves in the AppStore. Meaning if you are a parent and you say “I want my kid to have 1-2 hours of game time, but all research tools are allowed all the time” Some games will report themselves as “Information and Reading” to get around settings. I find oftentimes the more garbagey the game the more likely it will do that.
63·1 year agoMy previous house was smart down to nearly every light being RGB Hue. For movie nights it kicked ass to be able to sync the lights in my living room / kitchen to the movie.
The challenge in IoT is the “I”. Many companies make cheap products that REQUIRE internet to work and are not going to work longer than a decade in most cases.
When I was designing that house I had made it a point to not purchase any device that was not Zigbee, Z-Wave or Natively compatible with HomeKit which led to a very robust setup that would continue to function even when the internet was down.
If you are dabbling I recommend making the same decision even if you plan to use GoogleHome or Alexa. The HomeKit compatible things usually cost more for a reason.
I have stopthemadness setup in my safari browser to redirect all YouTube links to invidious…. I watch less YouTube that way
I believe that Harris had indicated her policy on Biden would’ve been different but I wasn’t entirely sure how.
She could’ve probably said something like “October 7th WAS a terrorist attack and Israel has a right to defend itself. However, there is a difference between defense and suppression” and likely not pissed any sensible people on any side off too much.
That said; My opinion matters very little as I do t have a meaningful connection to the conflict other than hating to see un necessary suffering.
