Interestingly, most natural radioactive material in nature comes from uranium. Uranium is also a heavy metal, and is quite toxic in its own right.
It’s likely that it’s avoided due to heavy metal poisoning rather than radiation.

Empathy is a useful base emotion. It’s one of the mental skill sets that set mammals apart from other animals (though birds also seem to have something very similar). Ants etc can coordinate, but it’s hard coded. Empathy allows for the dynamic adjustments that allow for cooperative mammals groups.
Humans are just particularly good at it, since we likely used it as a hunting method. Endurance hunting requires the ability to track, if you lose contact with the prey. Empathy allows a hunter to get into the head of the prey, and so predict their actions.
Rats could have complex logical planning thoughts on enlightened self interest. Humans generally don’t, however. It’s a lot easier to have a drive to take low effort actions for a large gain to another. Combine that with a basic understanding of reciprocal payoff and you have basic empathy.
I’d be interested to see an experiment into spite. Tweak the experiment so that 1 rat believes the other chose not to let it out, when given the option. Will it then help when the situation reverses? Or will it spite the other rat and leave them trapped?
The dream router is an excellent base to build upon. It provides all the normal functions (ethernet, wifi, router etc) as well as hosting the control software.
Unifi’s real power is when you expand it. The access points make extending WiFi coverage easy. You dont even need a wired link. It will link over WiFi, either as a primary or as a fall back. The flex mini is also quite handy. It’s a little poe powered switch. I have a couple tucked away providing extra ports around the house.
With my setup, I have detailed monitoring and control down to the port or wifi device. I can monitor and control things in detail, or get a high level view of my network.
While expensive, UniFi hardware is just a huge step beyond the rest of the consumer market.
I’ve had literally 10x the range (5x vs 50m), in congested environments, compared to ‘gaming’ hardware. I actually did a side by side to test. I was shocked at the difference.
The bridging function is also a life saver. 2 LR units can get a reliable signal between each other, at ridiculous ranges.
I was taught to adjust my speed until the distance is safe. Most people eventually either overtake, or get the hint and back off.
Don’t break check though! It can cause people to panic and swerve, causing an accident.
Acceptable. We understand that America lacks the infrastructure to support advanced equipment, like the 3kw electric kettle.
I know the sort of tea suppliers you’re referring to. Ive been disappointed by tea from quite a few of them. This isn’t one of them.
They are actually a small family business that’s been quietly working for over 100 years. They are basically a whole sale company aimed at the ultra premium quality market. They have a little stall in one of the guildhall markets, where they’ve been for decades at least.
As far as I’m personally concerned, their tea is worth the prices they charge. I also wouldn’t judge them by the price of bags. Them selling bags is relatively new. I wouldn’t be surprised to learn the teabags were hand made to order. When it comes to loose leaf, they are actually cheaper than some Twinings teas.
We accidentally built an empire looking for new seasonings! It got so bad we started naming our new dishes after where we stole the flavours from!
If you want to salt the tea, that’s your business, but at least heat the water first!
I mean, your tea game is dire. Far too dilute, and made with cold salt water! Who would want to drink that. If that’s the best Boston can do, it completely explains why Americans don’t drink tea!
Before kids, microwaved tea is an absolute travesty. After kids, it’s an unfortunate necessity.
I personally have cheap(ish) teas that priduce a drinkable cup. I also have the good teas that deserve more care and attention.
If you’re interested, these guys provide the best tea I’ve found so far. (They also supply a number of the best tea shops in Bath). It’s definitely not cheap tea, but I currently have several kg of it in the house 😅
FYI, the taste differences become far more obvious with better quality teas. Darjeeling, being a more subtle (and posh) tea show this strongly. It’s also a lot less tolerant of poor brewing.
For best results, don’t cheap out, and look up optimal brewing instructions.
The British empire has entered the chat (backed by a very heavily armed fleet of warships).
That’s also before accounting for the various ground scientists who would rapidly become aware through the private channels. Someone appearing on the ISS would leak beyond containment before anyone could think to cut phone communications, let alone implement it.
Compared to telefragging someone on live tv? Also, on the balance, the media coverage would likely help knock loose some more funding for NASA, if only to try and figure out what the f*** happened.
Scientists are not good at keeping secrets, particularly not of this level. Also, the ISS is remarkably public. It would be obvious they were hiding something, at the very least.
Would I expect to spend some time “volunteering” in a research lab, more than likely. I doubt it would get to dissection level. The risk/cost would be low enough that I would take it.
The International Space Station. The sheer confusion value would be amazing, particularly if I stayed quiet about how it happened (“I went to bed, then woke up floating here. I’ve no clue how it happened”).
I would get to cause a major incident of complete chaos, with little to no harm. I would get to experience space and weightlessness. I would also get a near guaranteed lift home (eventually). There’s also almost no way it could be kept quiet, so I get to be a minor celebrity for a while.
From memory, we are statistically more likely to be geniuses. Unfortunately we are also equally as more likely to be clinically insane.
I know, first hand, how strong the illusion is, that depression causes. It’s like having a mountain poised to avalanche down on you. You just want to escape, even if it’s via extreme means.
The key is that it is still an illusion. It’s a paper tiger, once you get a handle to fight it, it dissolves like mist. Most people who attempt suicide, due to mental health, are not dealing with a steady chronic condition. They are at a crisis point. If they receive appropriate help, clawing their way back is perfectly possible for most.
There are exceptions, but they are quite rare. I would bundle them with terminal illness, though proving that is a lot harder. It’s also a balancing act between being OK with dying, and being of sound mind to make that decision.
Many places make it illegal to allow police to intercede. In most places, the police can intervene if they believe a crime is about to be committed.
There is a huge line between someone who is terminally ill, and wants to die on their own terms, and someone having a mental health crisis. The first should be legal, but still needs support and checking, the 2nd need immediate help.
An otherwise normal dish.
The trick is to also give this book at the secret santa, while making sure your dish is a perfect match, visually for one in the book.!
