My point is if AI takes over all of the work there won’t be any jobs for humans. So they won’t have any money.
So who are all the AI companies going to sell their products to? The whole system doesn’t work in an AI future and we don’t need AI gods to be able to do our jobs, after all most humans are idiots.

If they actually achieve AGI I don’t understand what money would even mean anymore. It essentially is just a mechanism for getting people to do things they don’t otherwise want to do, if the AI can do it just as well as the human, but for free other than the electricity costs, why the hell would you pay a human to do it?
It’s like saving up money, in case of nuclear war. There are a few particular moments in history where the state of the world on the far side of the event is so different to the world on this side of the event that there’s no point making any kind of plans based on today systems.
Right but that’s not interesting to anyone but themselves. So why call it AGI then? Why not just say once the company has made over x amount of money they are split off to a separate company. Why lie and say you’ve developed something that you might not have developed.
So they don’t actually have a definition of a AGI they just have a point at which they’re going to announce it regardless of if it actually is AGI or not.

That’s not how Chinese law works.
Chinese law requires that foreign businesses operate under the Chinese government. It does no require Chinese businesses do that though. That’s the whole reason why everyone says it’s unfair, China gives their own country an advantage.

Oh please attack them on actual grounds rather than a made-up nonsense. The screwdriver is actually decent product if you care about that sort of thing. No one’s getting scammed there, It’s an actual product that’s of relatively good quality.
If you don’t care about screwdrivers then you’re probably not interested in the product anyway and if you are a frequent screwdriver user you probably understand why it’s a good product.

I vaguely looked into it when I bought my first home and ultimately decided that it was more trouble than it was worth. You basically either have to pay a subscription fee for some company to do all the processing for you, and they’re liable to either increase the price on you, or go bankrupt. Or you need to run your own server.

It doesn’t matter anyway, we still need the big companies to bankroll AI. So it effectively does belong to them whatever we do.
Hopefully at some point people can get the processor requirements to something sane and AI development opens up to us all.
Banning AI is out of the question. Even the EU accepts that and they tend to be pretty ban heavy, unlike the US.
But it’s important that we have these discussions about how copyright applies to AI so that we can actually get an answer and move on, right now it’s this legal quagmire that no one really wants to get involved in except the big companies. If a small group of university students want to build an AI right now they can’t because of the legal nightmare that would be the Twilight zone of law that is acquiring training data.
What I would actually like to know is why Apple don’t make a smart speaker. It’s honestly a product I would have thought they would have actually made. It could be made of metal and cost $12,000, it’s right up there alley.
I don’t think anyone has ever assumed they would make a search engine they don’t really have much pedigree in that area.
