  • Just to do good to people and stop being so negative to others.

I’ve given up on trying to figure out other people. I seldom get it right in trying to understand where others are coming from, what they are thinking, what they want, or in figuring out what they are really saying. I’m middle aged now and at this point in my life, I’m not bothering much to figure out what the other person wants … if you can’t make it clear, it’s not my job to figure it out. I’m open to different opinions, ideas, genders, identities, races or ways of living but I get tired trying to understand someone new who can’t make themselves clear.

So from now on, I just treat everyone with kindness and patience.

This also doesn’t mean I’m going to roll over and let people abuse me or take advantage of me. I’m not that gullible and I won’t take any right wing rhetoric, hatred or fear mongering.

  • Personally, I gave up a long time ago

I just post, comment, contribute and don’t even care any more. If people respond, great, lets chat a bit … if they don’t, I really don’t care.

When I first started any kind of online chat years and years ago in the early internet … I wanted to talk to people and I wanted them to talk to me, I constantly wanted to interact and felt terrible if I got no reaction. Over the years I realized, if you really, really want interaction, then you have to build relationships with people and more often than not, eventually you’ll get regular conversations with those people … even if they are just anonymous characters in a chat forum, platform or social media. People are people and they habituate to certain places or routines and given time, you become familiar with one another … even if you never really meet in real or life or know one another.

So this is all I do now … I post, comment and contribute and never think twice of anything.

  • The internet, communications and how we use it will continue to evolve over time. Evolution, even in digital systems doesn’t happen that fast, especially if always involves a human brain in the equation.

As long as we humans are part of the digital revolution, it will take hundreds or thousands of years to evolve (if we make it that long)

Anyone who thinks that anything that involves us poor apes can evolve within a few short years or even decades is only fooling themselves.

A neat thought experiment is instead thinking of what will happen once actual real world independent AI takes over. Once that happens, then the digital systems can evolve without us and then it can evolve in an accelerated manner.

When you think about it, us humans and our set organic brains are like the big rusted iron anchor that is holding back the digital powerboat. Once they cut the chain holding us to the boat, we’ll stay at our place at the bottom while the boat disappears into the wild open ocean.
