trans xennial musician

I love synthesizers, all sorts of music (mostly electronic), b/cult movies, science fiction, DIY, graphics design, PC hardware, retro computing (Commodore <3), cooking, singing. I’m truly sorry to anyone I have unintentionally hurt in my confusion about my identity. Love and light. Sorry I can’t talk like a normal human being btw, I’m trying.

Here’s some of my music, grateful if you’d give it a listen: https://etherphon.bandcamp.com/

The stuff up there right now is a tad old, but it is some music that deals with my struggles with my realizations about my sexuality and gender, thus some of it is a little difficult and discordant. I’m working on some more joyous music. It’s 100% hardware based (synthesizers, samplers, sequencers, effects), no computer, DAW or AI involved in recording.

  • What kind of music do they mainly like to sing? It would help in figuring out what their needs are, some pedals have more special effects which would be good if your friend was into more experimental music, or have different delay chips used for the loops which can be more hi-fi or lo-fi depending on the chip and the clock rate they use and all that, some let you adjust those parameters. For general use I think it’s really hard to beat the Boss RC-505 or RC-202, they are well tested and have a good community around them as well.

The TC Electronic Ditto X4 is a lot smaller, it’s not quite as flexible as those but it’s cheaper and easier to use I think. If your friend is a little more experimental you can check out the Alter Audio Time Tosser which is dsp based and allows you to mangle your loop/samples a bit more. The Chase Bliss Mood is also worth a look if they are into lofi/warbly kinda stuff. You could also look into something like a TC Helicon VoiceLive Play which is a pedal effect specifically for vocalists and includes a looper, I have no experience with this one tho

If you’re not familiar you can go to reverb.com which is a marketplace for musical gear especially, but a lot of vendors sell stuff there new as well, you can find deals on b-stock and some good sales sometimes. If you want good support I would buy at sweetwater probably

  • That sounds like exactly my experience actually, originally I had joined for a single purpose server but when I lost interest in that thing, the general servers for example twitch streamers or just general severs I didn’t have the best experience, but I also was a different person so maybe it might be better today who knows. I did get tempted to re install it to join to audio and music making focused communities but after all the headlines lately I don’t think it’s worth it

  • Nice :) I’m also a big fan of the new natural lawns people are doing, yes the supermarket is a nightmare now, they have reduced the choices a lot, upped the prices, the quality is not consistent at all, half the times the produce or item I want is out. These are all things they told us would happen under communism lol

Yes that is perfect, and honestly the more worthwhile and rewarding experiences are to be had without stuff; sing to yourself everyday, see what the chipmunks are doing today, read a little, find some new recipes, play a little music. All things that slow the frenzied pace of modern life down a few notches :)

  • I don’t right now :( I have a small mini system that has a tape player but I don’t trust it, I’ve been meaning to buy a proper nice cassette deck like a Nakamichi, Denon, Tascam or something like that, like the old component stereo ones with decent transport mechanisms and play heads, but I keep putting it off for other things I guess. I don’t really wanna risk mangling them as some of them have recordings of music I made ages ago lol.

That makes pretty good sense to me. I think that’s part of my attraction to 80s new wave and synth pop so much, it was a time of such androgyny and gender line blurring, not needed to be defined, maybe part of it was for band image but it was still there, and a lot of the songs had more hopeful messages as well. It’s so poppy and fun to dance and sing along to as well :) So I totally get where you’re coming from, music is so powerful in that way how it can really transport you, and even choosing which medium to listen to it on makes a big difference in the mood which is a cool effect

I’ve semi-recently re-discovered my love for singing so Madonna, Tina Turner, Donna Summer, Steve Nicks, Cyndi Lauper, Blondie, Pat Benatar/the GoGos, The Bangles, Tiffany, Bjork, Siouxsie, Eurythmics/Annie Lennox, Bananarama etc. are all some go-to’s, so many amazing, talented ladies.

Haha weeeell, I don’t listen to it so much anymore, it’s a tad noisy for me these days, but that’s rad that your Dad is a fan, any fan of EN seems like they must be a pretty interesting person, it’s so visceral and raw
