  • I’d say that every house has a junk drawer, but I wouldn’t call this a junk drawer. It mostly looks like random kitchen tools. I guess you’re both right, in a way.

Maybe what you need is a wall-mounted rack to hold some of your other stuff without taking up valuable counter space. For example, I’ve heard people swear by magnetic knife holders. You can probably find magnetic tool holders at a hardware store for less than you’d find knife holders at a store that specializes in kitchen stuff.

Or maybe just get some hooks. Perhaps some little shelves. Whatever. The point is, make the stuff you use most often more accessible, and use the freed-up space in other drawers to clean out this drawer. Then turn it into a proper junk drawer, with shit like loose rubber bands, half~dried superglue, an awkwardly shaped pen from a real estate salesperson, and a tape measure that’s branded with the logo of an NFL team for some reason.

  • I’d “forgive” them after using their apology against them in court, and pressing both civil and criminal charges. (I know I’m dreaming here, but were they stupid enough to give you a written note?) Even then, I’d only “forgive” them for my own benefit - holding on to anger can do psychological damage, and revenge is often impractical.

Also, I’d remember that “forgiving” and “forgetting” are two very different things.

Lastly, I’d copy the tone, wording, and overall style of their “apology” as closely as possible when “forgiving” them. Basically, I’d say FUCK YOU in the most diplomatic way possible.

  • Okay. So we’re not talking about a hurt man here. He just wants to have fun without the responsibilities. The best thing I can say is that I’m glad he was mature enough to take his ex’s feelings into account. A lot of “men” are too selfish and immature to do that. That speaks well of both him and your parenting.

By 29 you’d expect the awkwardness to be over, but it isn’t. He could very well feel like he isn’t ready to start a family. I know the environment is a major concern for a lot of people - he simply may not want to bring children into a world that he believes is doomed. Has he ever expressed this concern to you?

Please note that I’m not building up to a point where I defend his dating a high school student. I think it’s gross. I’m just trying to understand why he might make such a choice.
