TIL. I first encountered Sceptre during lockdown when I needed better monitors than I was sent home with. I’ve been impressed and have bought two more since then for other devices. And about two years ago I bought one of their dumb TVs, and it’s worked flawlessly.
TVs don’t seem to be a core business for them, I get the impression that they are a monitor focused business. Of course it’s not hard to upgrade a monitor to a TV so why not?
They do list all their products on their website so maybe check there?
Yes.
Get a dumb TV, I’ve had great luck with the Specter brand, and hook up a set top box for your smart functionality.
Smart TVs spyon you, report on you, eat bandwidth even when off, and become out dated quickly.
To paraphrase Al Franken, I like Martha Stewart more than others, and I hate Martha Stewart.
Also, fuck Elon.
Signal has already stated that they will pull out of the UK if they go through with their version of this, I imagine they’ll say the same for the EU.
Get a good VPN, exit it from a non-5 eyes country, and hope they don’t start blocking by phone number alone… and hopefully they’ll drop the phone number requirement sooner than later.
Also, welcome to Signal!
Crypto (ETH and the like) is useful for it’s protocol, you can build projects on it.
Bitcoin is a good store of value, and with lightning payments starting to be accepted it could be a good way to pay for goods and services. The third world is currently using lightning to circumvent inflationary currency swings.
It wasn’t a direct reference, but definitely inspired by Dr. cox.
I mean he could just make the platform “we’ll unblock the porn” and nothing else and win a majority in the first election.
And the book will have been better.
A year or two ago the YouTube channel primitive technologies did a video where he built under floor heating for his hut with an outdoor fire. It reminded me of how the Romans heated their floors.
User: Hey AI how do we solve climate change?
AI: Sure thing, I’ve updated a comprehensive report with a step by step guide to accomplish your goal of solving climate change. Just click this file to download it: SkyNet.exe
I disagree, Microsoft’s enshittification of windows with win 8 led me to learn Linux. From there I’ve learned more about computing, self hosting, and networking than I ever had an interest in before. What I’m saying is give it time, nobody is going to be hackerman on day one of this law being enforced.
Oh I agree but it would be nice if he’d have listened to me years ago and started using a password manager at least. I know he’ll never go full self hosting, but come on at least use Bitwarden!
Like with Bitcoin, not your keys not your coin. If you don’t hold it you don’t own it.
I should get this for my dad, he recently got a new computer at best buy and the geek squad told him his files were all in the cloud and sent him home. Guess who got a call the next day because “all my passwords are in a word document in some fucking cloud”. Yeah that was a fun day spent setting up his computer while listening to his rant about the geek squad and “the fucking cloud”… thanks geek squad…
Yep, I saw they had The Monday Night Wars and every episode was listed as free to stream. When I finished episode 4 a message came up that I could subscribe to continue watching. I checked online and it was all, from episode 5 on, behind the paywall after saying beforehand that it wasn’t. I deleted the app from my Roku and phone, then deleted my account. Fuck peacock.
Start walking west, when you reach the edge of the horizon, trump will take accountability.
Thread also works on the 2.4 GHz range but can utilize sub ranges of 868 in Europe and 915 in north America. The 868 and 915 GHz ranges are what LoRa operates on and provides a much greater range for low data rate transmissions.
In fact Meshtastic operates on LoRa on 915 here in the U.S. and I have a node in my second floor window with a 3db antenna and I have been able to message both ways up to 3 blocks away.
Long story short, utilizing 868 and 915 in these devices will make dead spots a thing of the past within a home, even with their lower gain internal antennas.
When I saw the ad for this on my Roku I thought it was just some western channel based on the name and color scheme. It wasn’t until I saw an article about it that I even knew what it was. I looked into it, my thoughts are, terrible branding, terrible marketing, terrible discovery on the website.
I don’t see anything that I don’t already own that I would want to watch, but since the website search sucks I don’t know if there’s more to see or not.
Based on all that, I’m not even willing to blow $2.99 one time to see if it gets better in the app because I doubt it will.
