Yeah this, the guide is great but the size limits and such can be kind of nuts. I went back and used the guide but stick to 1080p for more chances at finding stuff and less bloat.

A lot of the guide feels geared to hosting just for you if you have a great TV setup. Considering half the people that use my stuff are on a phone, 1080 is fine, saves transcode and headaches with things that older decides can’t even stream.

The way we speak is so important. Think about when people throw out something like “that movie was bad”, “that restaurant sucks”. That’s making it objective. It ends the conversation. There is no room for improvement or talk at all. In their minds those things are bad and that’s the end of it.

You see this a lot in online communities, especially gaming.

If they instead said “I didn’t like x”, a conversation can be had. Now there is a chance they could like that thing if something we’re adjusted. By changing how we say something we can be open others opinions, to differences we share.

Language is powerful.

Without a doubt.

Language and how we specifically say things are huge. It’s why we are big pushing to redefine a host of things now.

We are meant to use “I feel” statements instead of indirectly blaming others with you statements. Using more specific pronouns to avoid little harms that can build up. To say more specific and less derogatory things like unhoused or inclusive things like people of color. It all adds up.

This won’t be the solution or the cure for depression but every little bit helps. If you have depression and are stuck, the making a small differentiation that you FEEL sad instead of BEING sad can be just enough to get you in gear for that day at least. That can be huge.

I was literally having this discussion with coworkers Friday.

Why did we stop giving out prizes to adults for annoying tedious shit? Why do only kids get a loli and sticker for going to the doctor or dentist? Why no whimsy for us? I would 100% frequent a doctor who still said thanks and offered a prize!

I think that was my 1 hang up for syncthing.

I only use nextdoor for the file storage. Like Dropbox type of thing. Too get files to different computers when I need them. I don’t use any other feature.

This is the way.

Used to be astronomy based. Sol for actual network and then planets and stellar bodies and stuff. But I have so many devices now.

Now I just make it ass informative with as free letters as possible. Almost everything is 3 or 4 letters long.

So like fsrv for file server, msvr for media server and so on.

I’ll sadly have to keep using Plex until jellyfish makes library sharing simple.

I have like 10 different family members using my server. If I have to do anything beyond just letting them log in to a plex account on the app to get access, they just won’t.
