Yup, I like to sum it up as “we are in the palm pilot era of smart phones still.”
It’s a huge cliche to compare it to the iPhone. And it appears we won’t have an iPhone moment, it seems like we will have a more gradual shift.
But yeah. We love our palm pilots right now. But it’s gonna get so much better.
I can’t wait for social VR to be filled with more “normal” people.
People love to shit on VR because Meta pulled all that metaverse bullshit. But VR just keeps growing. Slowly, but it’s growing.
There’s no evidence it’s stopping yet.
In fact, Samsung and Google are jumping back in. And we have some of the lightest headsets ever made on the market right now.
VR is in a slow upswing.

For as far reaching the negatives are for Apple’s policies on in app purchases, this is one spot where they are advantageous.
It’s easy to cancel Nitro if you use in app purchases on iOS/iPadOS.

I work in education. Grading is always a burden, yeah. Homework/activities often need to be designed for the students AND for grading load.
My suspicion is students who understand the situation will try to game the system. Like they do with organic teachers, too.
For turning on lights and starting and stopping a Heatpump, voice assistants are awesome.
Turning on and off lights and setting timers is what most people use Alexa for. And a certain number use it for music too.
Most people don’t use any of the “assistant” or “ai” features these smart speakers have.
I’ve found it difficult to find other uses. But these ones are great.
Older devices stop getting software/firmware updates.
But usually simpler things like USB to Ethernet adapters and switches don’t have much going on update wise. If anything at all. Switches often do, adapters rarely do.
The best you can do is keep an eye on updates for the devices, if any. Keep an ear out for reported vulnerabilities, and then retire devices when they are no longer maintained.
But all of that is quite a burden for a device most people set up and forget about. At some scale, and in some senses, there is no good answer. New vulnerabilities are found all the time in hardware/software.
If you just mean “will old devices stop working”? No. This would just impact new sales.

Yeah, I’m mostly responding to the people I perceive to always shit on VR by mocking the idea of a metaverse or Meta’s version of a metaverse.
People dismiss the whole medium because of Zuck going wild with metaverse hype, and causing the whole industry to make all these nonsense metaverse claims.
Even Microsoft Teams was boasting about metaverse aspects at one point.
