Asbestos may be - but no cigarette bud I have ever seen has decomposed. So definitely none of the millions I’ve had to see has ever been made of organic materials. And I would have a hard time believing that I simply never saw an organic cigarette bud in an intermediate decomposition stage. So they haven’t been used in any significant amount during my lifetime.

Well - there’s nothing left to argue about - I do believe we have bigger climate killers than large computing centers, but it is a worrying trend to spend that much energy for an investment bubble on what is essentially an somewhat advanced word prediction. However, if we could somehow get the wish.com version of Tony Stark and other evil pisswads to die out, then yes, using LLMs for some creative ideas is a possibility. Or for references to other sources that you can then check.
However, the way those models are being trained is aimed at impressing naive people and that’s very dangerous, because those people mistake impressively coherent sentences for understanding and are willing to talk about automating tasks upon which lives depend.
I’m generally ok with people using LLMs to make their lives easier, because why not?
Because 1) it adds to killing our climate and 2) it increases dependencies on western oligarchs / technocrats who are generally horrible people and enemies of the public.

Not at all. AI is something that uses rules, not statistical guesswork. A simple control loop is alreadu basic AI, but the core mechanism of LLMs is not (the parts before and after token association/prediction are). Don’t fall for marketing bullshit of some dumbass silicon valley snake oil vendors.

I have on many occasions cleaned up the discarded cigarettes stubs of some inconsiderate shithead smoker, yes. But even without that, unless you live in Singapore, you should have enough awareness about whats going on around you to notice a pattern after a couple of years that you never see cigarette stubs in any form of decomposition, only the fibers coming apart.
