I was just thinking of the likes of what you get for searching for esp32 audio kit on AliExpress. About us$12. Has microphones, amplifiers, buttons etc.
Esp32 is very suitable but they jumped through a lot of hoops to recreate the ESP audio development boards you can buy for very little money with all of those parts already built in.
I would ascribe the same virtues to org mode, but to give one answer to my own question, markdown is entirely editor independent which is generally a plus, though least so for personal notes where org can export to many formats (including markdown).
With org and Emacs there are other benefits like integrated personal to-do and agenda management which is why I have favored it over markdown. But even though I’m a committed Emacs user, being primarily an Emacs format is a philosophical negative if not a practical one for me in this case.
I’m curious why markdown works better for you?
I just switched to denote - liking the simple elegance.
What? We’re burning more fossil fuels than ever and the earth feedback loops seem to be kicking off. Just because we’re also expanding use of less destructive energy sources doesn’t mean we’re curbing output. Making things worse slightly less quickly isn’t making things better.
they were actively trying to fly to the light
I can’t see how that could make sense. They’d all just fly straight up at the moon. You can see them all flying in circles around lights.
Really I always thought, and I don’t assume it was my original thought, that they probably were used to keeping the moon at a fixed relative position and they did the same with artificial light.
This is the first time I’ve heard any suggestion of being attracted directly towards the light. How would that make sense? They’d just fly straight at the moon on a clear night.
Was that not the common understanding? That’s what I always assumed was happening - I think I was told as much as a small child.
I suppose it’s confirmed by spatial analysis now.
Kids often don’t know the difference between “wifi” and the Internet. It’s not an age thing these days.
That’s not the issue. The issue is inherently seeing white as meaning good and black as meaning bad.
I do think dropping master
is absurd, since it in no way implies slavery or any such thing. master
mostly has uses that are entirely inoffensive, unless post-graduate degrees are racist, for example.
But I do think there is some merit in moving off the idea of white is good and black is bad. There are some good arguments that we shouldn’t bestow magic powers upon words, but there is also a lot of merit in the idea that these words affect our perception in negative ways and there is really nothing lost by shifting to equally good alternatives.
It’s obviously trivial energy waste in the big picture, but it’s 100% waste if you don’t need it. Like turning on lights in empty rooms.
