Interesting. I figured there was just a backdoor in Knox or iOS it was using.

It’s on Interstellar, You can get it on Eternity. It’s on Voyager. It’s on Raccoon. It’s on Blorp. Download Blorp it’s on there. Download Blorp.
Interesting, I haven’t seen the “pure AP” thing, will check it out. Yeah I’m not attached to any particular model of it, since there are pros and cons of each, and they have the same basic structure (communities on lemmy appear as users reposting whatever mentions them, you could represent imageboard communities the same way, etc etc). Hopefully people evolve beyond just imitating popular social media products.

Yes, there are teenagers who will pirate indie games. Most of them didn’t have the money for them anyways.

Well, Mastodon seems designed to have people give up on it. Austere interface, short charlimit, no federation of reactions, no search bar. I hate it so much. I recommend one of the Misskey forks. It’s more “modern” than any mainstream social media website now.
Use one of the crazier ActivityPub platforms if you want funny reacts. A lot of them are like an unholy mix of Twitter and Discord

I don’t bother explaining any of the weirder forks or what Mastodon or Pleroma is. People want somewhere to post photos and videos on, and I just want to be able to see ActivityPub posts

I don’t recall Fossify Clock being worth it. Calendar is fine although I would be wary of using certain notification settings (which are a bit annoying since they can only be changed by category, and need to fire once per category before being edited), since I ended up unable to turn mine off without restarting my phone. 😅 I was really messing around with those settings though. I just use it to keep track of historical birthdays and event anniversaries now since Orgzly Revived is my preferred time thing. The caldav syncing is a no brainer, though. It would be fine with Thunderbird/Betterbird on desktop.
Voice Recorder is good, I’ve been using it a lot actually. Paint seemed superfluous. Calculator is awful. The Launcher exists. Notes is okay, they should add encrypted sync and I might use it someday. Joplin and Markor are better. Camera is okay + exists. Keyboard gave me a horrible bug where it was unable to work on my phone unlock screen, three times. I had to wait for my phone battery to run out when that happened, because of its charmingly unremovable battery. Have not used music player since I have VLC.
Avatar of Vengeance@lemmy.mlto DeGoogle Yourself@lemmy.ml•Are Fossify trustworthy and recommended?English8·14 days agoHonestly it really depends, I found their phone app somewhat buggy. The contacts are great. Messages I had an issue where the archive didn’t even work and just seemed to delete stuff. Which would have been really annoying if I actually needed anything deleted. Gallery is okay, nothing wrong with it. The file manager is as good as your operating system lets it be (IYKYK), but you’re already on Lineage so you’re fine.

Doesn’t really help anyone to deny that intelligence collaboration with USA bloc is mandatory for tech companies.
Does Carlson, who wanted to join the CIA and supported all kinds of neoconservatives throughout his career, really pose any challenge to this? No, he is just going to inoculate Trump supporters from the information being used against the right, which paints itself as “against the New World Order”. Fascism has done this since its inception, such as with Mussolini and others posing as anticapitalist critics as part of their eclectic strategy to gain support while out of power.
Avatar of Vengeance@lemmy.mlto Privacy@lemmy.ml•Pavel Durov (CEO of Telegram) about the use of "the Gag order" in U.S against social media privacyEnglish2·14 days agoThis article you guys are getting worked up about is just silly. Telegram is obvious cop shit, but like most “cybersecurity” analysis, this only treats enemies of the US as a threat. Imagine if we gave any real weight to this kind of association with US, Europe, or Israeli intelligence. They’re the actual pioneers of spying technology for the past 70 years.

Avatar of Vengeance@lemmy.mlto Privacy@lemmy.ml•Telegram, the FSB, and the Man in the MiddleEnglish21·16 days agoHm fair enough, would you say it applies to the situation between Google and Firefox? Because at this point it’s clear donors are a bigger factor than any software community. I made the comparison since the improvements of Rust and the potential it has for Linux and technologies intended to replace XMPP seem to have been politicized, giving NGOs control of projects in a way that could be misused further down the line. They’ll have a legitimate justification for it since they keep the projects alive.
Avatar of Vengeance@lemmy.mlto Privacy@lemmy.ml•Most used encrypted messenger besides Signal, Whatsapp, iMessage, and RCS?English14·16 days agoI have tried them all, I just use XMPP through Cheogram (mobile) and Movim (desktop in browser) now. I have had success getting my contacts to switch since I never bugged them about any other messengers before. Plus I am willing to follow through with ultimatums of abandonment and they are well aware of that.
If you have any actually normal friends (no offense) you’re going to have to use the regular phone network. XMPP has the best phone network gateway, I’ve bought like five Soprani.ca numbers. No it doesn’t encrypt the regular phone network.
Delta/Arcane Chat is cool but due to everyone basically being an admin-level user in the chat, I strictly use it as a home base for real homies. I mainly use it to run one gajillion bots, check my emails, run Mastodon/Misskey fork accounts in one location, and send stuff/WebXDC apps to myself.
You can’t seriously replace the social media monopolies or the phone network yet. I even run some Telegrams (don’t make fun of me) and control them with the Delta Chat bot. People just need to get used to “backing up” their social graph with secure options, and not just saying whatever pops into their head outside them
Libredirect is generally more useful than sponsorblock since it is built into Invidious now
