The problem is not the organization or lack thereof, the problem is that someone in your household buys too many niche specialized single-purpose kitchen tools. Wtf is that thing with the green handle?

I try to donate any kitchen tool that I haven’t used in a year or two.

Oh thanks for reminding me of my hot take: Rogue One is a thoroughly mediocre and boring movie that fails to give any of its characters personality or development. The only reason it has any acclaim is that it’s a “dark” plot in an otherwise saccharine franchise, and if the Star Wars set dressing was removed the whole movie would fall over like a potemkin village.

I do think it’s better than several of the main movies, but that’s not saying much… And I’d probably rather rewatch those trainwrecks because at least they’re entertaining.

Right, but the clients I use don’t have these issues. Maybe there’s an issue with the AppleTV client, that’s fair criticism, but saying that Jellyfin has inferior quality is not accurate.

But your criticisms seem to be of clients for Jellyfin rather than Jellyfin itself.

The fundamental problem is that a web engine is one of the most massively complex pieces of software that we currently use. There are a ridiculous number of standards and behaviors that a modern web browser needs to implement, as well as a whole host of security implications that need constant updating. It’s not like the majority of other software projects, where a determined solo dev or even small group can strike out on their own. It really requires a team of dozens or hundreds of developers putting in consistent effort, which basically means a corporate entity.

Quality is fine, sounds like user error. Features sure, but that’s to be expected with a paid app.

That’s what makes software legacy; it falls out of popularity. Plenty of terminal applications have barely changed since the 80s, but they’re not “legacy” because they’re actively used and maintained.

They’re trained to return to their home roost. It’s just a flock of white homing pigeons.

Switched back to Linux this week and I couldn’t be happier.

I have no context here, but isn’t getting a similar level of pushback from the community under a second alias evidence of some of it being justified? Or did people somehow discover it was the same person and then the abuse started?

That’s not what the post is about, it’s entirely about the android TV app. I assume they already built the functionally to generate the alarm signal (since it’s the entire raison d’etre for the company based on the name).

Good God I hate linkedin types. Imagine thinking writing an app that literally just displays a single notification is worthy of making a whole post about. They basically wrote a Hello World app for Android TV. And I’m sure they got paid like 40k by some poor school district to do so.

This is currently one of the biggest selling points for the browser, since Chrom(ium) is dropping support for v2… So I don’t see that happening.

My caps is backspace, try it and you’ll never look back (though Ctrl is good too). It’s actually part of the colemak layout that I use.

GitHub (since the Microsoft acquisition) is good to users because that’s their MO, it’s called Embrace, Extend, Extinguish, and the whole point is to centralize users and projects and make them dependent on the Microsoft ecosystem.

Of course now there’s also the whole issue of Copilot, which means any code you put on GitHub could very well show up piecemeal in someone’s AI-generated code. If it wasn’t for that novel avenue of monetization, you can bet your ass GitHub would have already made the free user experience a lot shittier.

That just makes it a more effective filter for what you’re looking for. Many people on the apps aren’t interested in a long text conversation and would rather get to know each other in person. If you prefer conversing online for a while, then count it as a win if someone ignores or unmatches you for sending them a long message.

Yeah it’s pretty disappointing. Their analytics blog used to be awesome too, tons of cool insights and it was obvious that they knew what they were doing. I assume the entire operation got bought up by VC money in the gold rush of Tinder clones.
