As does Windows and Mac. The both have states that are “asleep” but connected to the internet. Whether they will keep downloading - it’s not a thing I have tested.

Because of apple’s size. And because we just witnessed a death of a proprietary connector. A major win for the consumer and for the universtal serial bus projects overall mission.
On a side note. Apple has been part of the usb c project from the beginning and based on some biographies - they worked hard to never release Lightning. But they needed to drop the old 30pin connector and found usb C not ready when they needed it - so they release the lightning port instead. Then stuck to it for obvious profit /ecosystem reasons.
Same.
Seems to violate TOS of both app stores and likely a few laws in key markets.
But Elon never gave a hoot.
There’s bound to be either an government funded animal control or private animal removal service in your area. You can search of the public service first. They can tell you if there willing to handle this. And if not can likely point you in the direction of the private service.
Or are you asking for options other than calling animal control?
You mean like when you visit a Google service (Gmail, Google, Maps …) on a non Chrome browser it bugs incessantly to switch?
It’s pervasive and it stinks, but it’s not Microsoft. It’s our current capitalist gestalt.
Please separate government and politicians and media. Plenty hard work happening in our agencies solving important issues. And of course then congress wakes up and just spews bullshit.
I agree the convenience would be great. But the reason it’s rare is that the business model does not work out for the newspapers.
This would lead to reduced revenue for the newspapers.
We already live in the world where news is behind paywall and disinformation is free. This would lead to collapse of more newspapers and further deterioration of the landscape.
We need a better model than Spotify to apply to news.
I think the point of the question is that the producers get greedy midway. And stop the progress so they can go indefinitely. Then when the show is cancelled the finish the story arcs in the final season.
There are also conscious efforts to weed out bots and other measures that try to remove potential cancer from spreading.
There was a post recently that outlined bot weeding efforts on a couple dozen instances that tanked user number by something like 1/5 - clearly visible on graphs.
Lemmy’s doing great. Even if plenty small communities are still not big enough here.
The problem for me is that Musk is an unreliable partner to any government. He is for sale to the highest bidder that strokes his ego.
But I guess that is a risk the feds will have to deal with in due time.
Honestly I waiting for the moment when one of Musk’s stunts gets Space X banned from government contracts until the boot the Muppet.
Edit: grammar
There is nearly no benefit of being on the largest instance. In fact many would benefit from a smaller instance.
Definitely not a “never” .
In fact I hail from a European culture where the traditional grab has men proudly showing ( a lot of) midriff. (Detva region in Slovakia)
As others mentioned western/American fashion had sporty types wear crop tops in the 70s-90s
Here is Will Smith wearing a crop top in Fresh Prince From Bel Aire https://imgur.com/a/0OAZRpi
And yes - if you hang in certain circles men wearing crop tops is still perfectly acceptable. But currently it’s usually associated with femme-presenting queer men of other wise gender noncomforming people.
Straight men seem to have have shunned the look (as they tend to) when it became associated with queerness.
And. Of course all of this is US centric. Plenty other cultures and fashions out there.
Ps: Yahoo seems to think it’s time to bring the crop top back. So hey - you can be a pioneer: https://www.yahoo.com/lifestyle/return-men-crop-tops-why-210039991.html
Kbin?
Could Kbin be the UI for this use case? I currently keep the two worlds separate. But I wonder if I need a paradigm shift.
The other problem for me is that I am way more open about my identity on Mastodon (and post accordingly) but not in Lemmy/KBin - same as I was on Insta/Twitter vs Reddit.
Beware of celebrating spikes like these. Though sure -there could have been a viral moment for Kbin, it’s also likely these are bots.
Always wired.
I have wifi6e. I love it. It can usually match wired speeds (1gbps) but there is interference and dropouts on occasion.
For mortals. Wifi6 with good signal is enough. But wired is always better.
To be honest - Lemmy migration made me an active Mastodon user.
I joined Mastodon right after Musk took over Twitter. I was never big on Twitter but wanted to try mastodon.
But never became active. Because I was not a tweeter. I was also not a tooter.
The Reddit exodus was a wake up call for me and I committed to become a user and supporter in fediverse. So the migration to Lemmy/Kbin activated me as a Mastodon active users.
Isn’t that the differentiating feature of Kbin? Ability to both interact with Lemmy. Immunities and mastodon microblogging?
I am new. I may be wrong.
Please take the below as said with the most respect. Especially as I am very empathetic of the struggle of communities finding a space away from hate.
My … concern is:
What you describe is … Reddit / Threadiverse model. Small tight communities focused on openly discussing niche topics. This is why I am on Lemmy.
I use mastodon as “microblogging” - public posting on topics of interest and honestly as an RSS feed since many news orgs’ Twitter feeds are ported over to masto.
But my problem is. If mastodon is a place where we form tight private communities. … and Lemmy is a place where we form tight private communities …, and kbin is a place where we form tight private communities … why do we have all three? What is the difference?
We need fediverse software with clarity of purpose. And the purpose you described … does not fit at all to me with the way things, like replies, seem to work in Mastodon.
Does that make sense?
(And I fully admit I may completely be wrong in this opinion)
Photographers are it an obvious term to search for on maps. “Photo studios” sure. But event/wedding photographers are a google search not a maps search.
