A lot of great Trek prints in here, I couldn’t help but share my neverending quest to develop a working TNG tricorder (has sensors, lights and sounds). Im still working on this project but this photo is of the most recent iteration.

Thats a brilliant idea and I’m ashamed I didn’t think of it.
Here is the STL if anyone wants to remix it or whatever.

It’s definitely crying out for that ability. Maybe also with a little tab and ratchet system so it clicks as you spin 🤔
directive0@lemmy.worldto 3DPrinting@lemmy.world•How do you organize your 3d printing/modeling project folder(s)?English1·5 months agoI have 3D Printing folder with all my .blend files, and a folder for STLs. For important projects I will bundle everything in its own folder. PCB and Enclosure design both get their own folders for KiCad and Blender files, then there is a fabrication folder containing gerbers/BOM files, as well as STLs or any documents for stickers/etc that may be needed.
I usually will use a version tracking system like git for big projects that use that file tree as well.
As a seethingly jealous ender 3 peasant who is still spending most of his time keeping my printer working with kludges and duct tape; it’s nice to know Bambu owners are human after all and still run into problems.
Hope you get it sorted and are back printing soon! 🖖

To my knowledge the only way to “turn off” the menu bar is to run a program in full screen mode on a mac.

directive0@lemmy.worldto Anime@lemmy.ml•Studio Ghibli's "The Boy and the Heron" has won the BAFTA award for Best Animated Film!English3·1 year agoI feel like such a fake fan. This is obviously one of his most personal and sincere artistic offerings as a film maker… but I was just bored the entire way through. It was beautiful and whimsical, but the story left me so cold and unsatisfied. Nothing resolved, nothing really mattered, nothing felt like subtext. And I know I’m wrong, it MUST be something I missed.
I guess I’m just basic, but hit me with that Porco Rosso or Wind Rises or Laputa vibes. But thats art, there’s no accounting for taste. I’m going to watch Heron again and see if it takes a second viewing for it to hit home.
Regardless how I feel about it, I was so happy to finally catch a Miyazaki film in theatres with my kids. That was great.

Its completely usable for CAD and precision design for 3D printing or what have you. Its not built for it, but its capable if you learn how.
The lack of pure CAD focus is a drawback, but it is largely made up for in blenders absolutely amazing general purpose tool set. Its not just mesh manipulation, with geometry nodes you can create complex intricate shapes that are also precise to your requirements. There are countless workflows and plugins that allow you to make blender adapt your needs. You can remix existing STLs and bring in reference photos/models/etc. Simply put IMO there is no need to use any other program for almost any aspect of 3D design, and so it has become my go to.
I don’t recommend it for beginners, but it really is an incredibly powerful tool if you put the work in. Is it better that FreeCAD or Fusion? I am not qualified to say, but I’m pretty confident there are few features either package has that blender does not.

I think we take for granted how much predictive magic is happening behind the scenes on capacitive touch keyboards like on smartphones. I often find coding on a smartphone kind of challenging because it starts autocorrecting natural language, but on this its pretty easy since its just what you type is what you get. Lots of mistakes still, but having modifier keys available is also helpful.
I’m not trying to say its great, its just… very fine? Very okay.
directive0@lemmy.worldOPto 3DPrinting@lemmy.world•Made an enclosure for my beepy. I think enclosures are my favourite part of printingEnglish18·2 years agothe keyboard is definitely “fine” to type on, its just a blackberry keyboard. The driver for the keyboard is also in development so theres not much support for using the trackbutton as a mouse. The display is difficult for practical use, its a monochromatic screen, there is no backlit, and the pixel density isn’t amazing so you can’t see full lines of code, lots of wrapping. It’s better than having NO display in the field though. I actually really like it, its quirky, but with some struggle it is very usable.
Love my electric razor. It’s 25 years old and still kicking. Never replaced the blades or battery. Ride or die electric forever. You can take it from my cold dead hands!
