Feeling like I’m spending too much time doing nothing, and I know the mobile app for Lemmy on my phone is a huge part of this. Has anyone else tried removing Lemmy apps from their phone to cut down? Any unexpected consequences you have noticed?

Just switching to lemmy from reddit significantly cut down my screentime, especially with how small lemmy is right now where I can browse most of my subcriptions’ content for the day within a total of 2 hours. Nowadays, lemmy is what I do when I have downtime, not the other way around where I don’t have downtime because I’m constantly scrolling.

If lemmy is still eating up a ton of time in your day, then yes deleting your mobile apps will definitely help.

I’m in the same boat, I spend way less time on Lemmy than I did Reddit. I consider that a good thing, happy I made the switch. Plus I feel like posting/commenting on Lemmy is much more rewarding than Reddit so that’s another bonus imo.

Block every political community. You save about 30 minutes scrolling. Hell, it’ll dry up the whole site for you

I did and it worked. That or I install an app timer/blocker thing (they all behave p much the same).

Gradually I start thinking I don’t need to restrain myself anymore and my usage creeps back up until I smack it back down.

    Circle of life innit

Probably a good idea. I keep a book nearby with the intention of less phone time, but it’s not working.

I did just that… and now I spend the same amount of time browsing Lemmy on Firefox…

Though there was like 4 days where I cut down…

Lemmy doesn’t have that much content. It is easy to get through relevant content of interest pretty quickly. Then there’s not much point in going back till the next day. I haven’t felt the need to uninstall the app.

I guess the ones who have done it cannot hear your question, because your question is right here on lemmy. Isn’t it ironic?

Oh wait… there could be some who have done it unsuccessfully.

I’m using it on my laptop as well, but that doesn’t go with me everywhere. Removing it from my phone removes that instant temptation.

I’m rarely on here outside of work. That being said, I did delete it at one point because my mental health took a dip. Seeing upset constantly in the news and memes etc. Takes a toll on me eventually. I do curate my feed a decent amount but some communities have such a mix that I keep them
